Bush Family Katrina Comments Draw Scrutiny
Here it is DUers, the one we've all been waiting for. The bush family values tour, complete with all of their asinine comments about, "beautuful minds", "Trent Lott's House", and "this is working out very well for them". Rate this sucker up HIGH, Americans have to see what the bush family values are REALLY about!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20050908/en_afp/usweatherbushfamily_050908072914;_ylt=AnQqpuXxi2SnqEYc3AeyhUIbLisB;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this -- this is working very well for
them," she said.

In his first tour of the devastated region, Bush also praised Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) chief Michael Brown, saying: "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."

"Out of the rubbles of Trent Lott's house -- he's lost his entire house -- there's going to be a fantastic house. And I'm looking forward to sitting on the porch," he said on a tour of the region Friday, drawing nervous laughter

"Why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many, what day it's gonna happen, and how many this or what do you suppose?" she said. "It's not relevant. So, why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

They're all there, let's vote this up so that when Americans wake up this morning they get an eyeful of the "bush family values"!

1. There is a reason why I have always been reluctant to befriend rich kids
I just never cared to form friendships with children of privilege (adults who work their way up to wealth are different). They usually have an entitlement mentality and their general world view is that they just don't "get it" about how most Americans have to live their lives. Yes, there are occasional exceptions to this rule, but they are just that, the exception.

4. I agree.
I warned my children about how some of the rich behave when they went off to school. My two oldest children went to boarding school in high school, not because we are rich, but because they were accepted into our state's math and science academy.

I repeated my warnings when two of them went to private colleges. The rich are different.

My oldest kid told me recently that they did not need long to figure it out for themselves. She said that in high school and college both, rich people with attitude had different values, and they did not care to make friends with most of them.

You are right that it does not include everyone. * certainly embodies that sense of entitlement, though.

8. I always reminded my daughter.........
who was accepted at Tulane University with MUCH financial need based aid, that quote from Eleanor Roosevelt. "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent". That's what these people try to do, force their feelings of aristocracy down your throat so you feel awed and inferior around them. Tulane is FULL of rich, snobby kids and I wanted to prepare her is some way, being from a small town and all.
She told me that I was pretty much on the money, but that she was handling it just fine. That's my girl! ;)

13. murielm99, thank you for raising your children in this manner.

Parents like you give me hope that this country isn't breeding yet another generation of "Screw them, I've got mine."

The rich and celebrity worship is completely out of hand, and the only thing that can stop it from spreading is... well, parenting.

Thank you.

And I'm with you 100%, bluestateguy. While arguing at work the other day, the owner (who puts up with me, God love him) said, while defending himself, "What? You don't have any prejudices?"

I said, "Yeh. I don't like rich people, stupid people, or Republicans." :smoke:

9. well, not always
I went to school (on scholarship, mind you) to a prep school of sorts. I knew a lot of rich kids. They ranged from the sort of person you've described to really nice, decent, caring people. One of them ended up in the Senate. Another one was an assistant prosecutor for the NYC district attorney where he handled a LOT of domestic cases (wife beatings, child molestation, etc). They were both children of privilege and yet both had been raised with good values.

32. I'm shocked by these comments about rich people
they are no different than the comments about poor people. Where do you get off?

My only guess is that you have not been "exposed" to many rich people. Which is fine, you can have your prejudices but pushing them on your kids? Telling them what to think about people BEFORE they even meet them?

It's just as wrong as what Babs said.

I live in Utah and my son went through a phase where he was bashing mormons. I had to put a stop to it, and did. Not by telling him what to believe but pointing out examples of why he was wrong.

Sorry, prejudging people is wrong.

Oh yeah, and don't forget FDR and the Kennedys. Because of our jobs, we run in what you might call a "rich" crowd. There isn't a cold heart in the bunch. NOT ONE.

12. Why would this be listed in Yahoo "Entertainment"?
Are these nabobs supposed to be entertaining to us? Is it entertaining to see the callousness and disregard for human suffering that the "bush aristocracy" displays? I don't quite understand why Yahoo would list this under "entertainment". Anyone have a clue?

maybe some of the average income people that Bushco has used and abused will read it.

To rich people who have supported Republicans: The blood of Katrina victims and Iraq War dead is on your hands. You can't even claim you were brainwashed. Better get to church.

"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas."

She said it, not me. Scary dark people invading her beautiful mind. OUCH!

Not related to Katrina but.....

--snip

But the crowd roared when he (GHWB) declared his son the winner of Wednesday's presidential debate against Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry.

He even poked fun at protesters outside the auditorium yesterday chanting "Bush must go." The GOP crowd laughed as he described the demonstrators he encountered years ago while on a visit to San Francisco as "the worst-looking group of people I've ever seen."

"There was one woman," he said to more laughter. "A really ugly woman. She had a sign up that said, 'Stay out of my womb,' " as Bush put up his hands as if to deny he would ever go near her.

31. And some choice Jeb quotes:
From 11-13-03

--snip

Gov. Jeb Bush joked during a Florida Cabinet meeting Wednesday that the people of San Francisco may be endangered and, "That's probably good news for the country."

--snip

"I'm glad that Gary Coleman lives in California," Bush said. "A guy like me that believes in limited government probably would have a tough time against a fellow like that because he probably symbolizes smaller government."
