Last week I mentioned to the resident bush supporter (RBS) at work that if we wanted to see lower prices at the pumps there has to be an investigation.
I pointed out that consistently - every time prices go up and congress starts an investigation -- suddenly the prices go down.
The RBS scoffed...
Yesterday - I mentioned an article about an investigation into gas/oil prices. "Watch", I said, "by tomorrow (thursday) prices at the pumps will start coming down."
Well - I checked Gasbuddy.com for our area -- guess what -- prices went from an average of $3.19/gal to $2.99/gal
apparently - from this editorial - I'm not the only one to make this connection....
Gas probe may calm prices WE applaud State Attorney General Bill Lockyer's investigation into gas and oil price increases after Hurricane Katrina.
If history is an indicator, the investigation could at least stabilize and possibly reduce gas prices. The hurricane provides convenient cover for oil companies to raise prices beyond what the market would otherwise demand. Katrina knocked out about 10 percent of the nation's refining capacity, which will hurt, but ought not to cause the massive price spikes Californians have been seeing at their pumps.
