republicans to investigate katrina disaster, democrats NOT INVITED
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 05:37 AM by mopaul
now where did i leave that outrage?...in the closet?....no, over there?...no...hhhmmmm

nancy pelosi's statement concerning this obscenity:

"I am disappointed that the committee Speaker Hastert and Leader Frist have outlined is not truly bipartisan, will not be made up of equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans, cannot write legislation, and will not have bipartisan subpoena power.

"The American people want the truth as to what happened in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and how we can now best meet the needs of the hurricane victims. The Republicans missed an opportunity today to meet both those goals.

"Congress has an opportunity to lead - to hear the cries of the people touched by this disaster and put aside our differences to address them. But Republicans are afraid of a truly bipartisan investigation that can get to the bottom of why the federal government's initial response failed.

1. Time for an independent commission
outside of government (so the Repukes can't shut it down) to start working.

only the Democrats will be an open and transparent investigation.
Not behind closed doors.

9. Because they'll be stonewalled.
They won't have subpoena power, they will have no access to any of the relevant documents and records, and the MSM will ignore them. They need to kick ass nad take names but this won't do it.

15. GREAT idea !!!
Inviting scrutiny, and taking a HARD look at where the finances went, and where the failure to mobilize efficiently was. THIS is the type of thinking that is truly revolutionary. It's sad that the idea of being honest and straightforward with the people would excite me so much.

21. Somebody will have to clean out the broom closet again.
How many 'investigations' have they held that did exactly nothing? The Ohio investigation, the DSM investigation. I'm sensing a pattern here.

20. I guess these asshole repukes don't care how this looks to
the American public. I wonder why they don't? Not worried about being re-elected, not worried about losing Congress, not worried about '08? :yoiks:

14. Dems should make sure that
pink tutu Dems go nowhere near this "investigation". Stand up and demand real Dem participation, in equal numbers, with the Dems WE appoint, and full powers to subpoena, prosecute, and legislate. I don't wanna see Lieberman or Biden anywhere in the same zip code as this panel.

We need Corzine, Rangel, Conyers, Landrieu (I don't like her but it's her fight), Waters, Wexler, Meek, people like that. We pick em and go to WAR. If they won't go along then we walk and call it a whitewash. Then shut down the legislative process starting with the USSC nominee(s). Demand the truth. If not now, when?

16. Leave out the DINOs
Meek is one of them, see his recent votes on the issues that matter. It becomes obvious who his actual constituents are (at least in his mind). As you said Landrieu has a dog in this hunt so we can give her a waiver.

I'm awful tired of Dems who forget what they stand for, if they are a friend of the Corporations, they are no friend of ours.
