People defending Bush at all costs are in the Cult of Personality
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 07:21 AM by jsamuel
Personality cults usually characterize totalitarian states or countries which have recently experienced revolutions.(9/11)

The reputation of a single leader, often characterized as the "liberator"(Iraq) or "savior" (9/11) of the people, elevates that leader to an almost divine level.(divine Bush)

The leader's picture appears everywhere, as do statues and other monuments to the leader's greatness and wisdom.(W'04)

The leader's slogans and other quotes cover massive billboards, and books containing the leader's speeches and writings fill up the bookstores and libraries.(Hannity, etc)

The level of flattery can reach heights which may appear absurd to outsiders.(Fox News)

5. I really don't remember billboards posting a 40' high JFK
along the roadsides.

At the height of his popularity we never saw the trappings of CoP surrounding JfK. He got tabloid attention - very photogenic - but politics remained politics.

Even FDR didn't get the treatment that * gets.

6. ... most of it came after his death... CoP doesn't require 40' high signs
just a lot of little ones

or

put on the tv over and over again

12. it is like some sort of psychosis that has gripped much of the nation
it's just pathetic to watch and they are like active alcoholics who fail to see the damage they're inflicting on themselves and others

7. Go to the library and read real-time mags and papers
between 1961-1963. JFK was not held up as a "saviour"-there was real reporting going on then. The revisionists keep bleating about the hero worship AFTER he was murdered, but that is only to excuse their behavior regarding THEIR icon, RR Superstar.

8. Personality? What personality does the monkey possess?
Punk, shithead, liar, smacked ass, jerkoff, etc, oozes from every poor of the feckin' idgit. If that's the kind of person these sad fucks want to follow, then I hope that they will follow his sorry ass right off the cliff. Good riddance.

9. "Cult of Personality"
Look into my eyes, what do you see?
Cult of personality
I know your anger, I know your dreams
I’ve been everything you want to be
I’m the cult of personality
Like mussolini and kennedy
I’m the cult of personality
Cult of personality
Cult of personality

Neon lights, a nobel prize
The mirror speaks, the reflection lies
You don’t have to follow me
Only you can set me free
I sell the things you need to be
I’m the smiling face on your t.v.
I’m the cult of personality
I exploit you still you love me

I tell you one and one makes three
I’m the cult of personality
Like joseph stalin and gandi
I’m the cult of personality
Cult of personality
Cult of personality

Neon lights a nobel prize
A leader speaks, that leader dies
You don’t have to follow me
Only you can set you free

You gave me fortune
You gave me fame
You me power in your god’s name
I’m every person you need to be
I’m the cult of personality
Look into my eyes, what do you see?

10. Cult of personality where Bush is simply above our petty woes, concerns
embodying the purity and righteousness of The American Nation itself.

In another thread, I noted Matthews and co. trying to nominate the personality that would save us from the Katrina muckup. Giuliani? Kerik? McCain? They are dying to join a cult!

11. bush administration riding on coattails of
repressed, fearful white Christian population that is so afraid of changes going on around them. HOwever America is all about diversity and change, so this small fearful group can only boost the republicans to power for so long. Bush is all about money and the ugly underside of the republicans is showing with the handling of this disaster.

13. defending Bush at all costs is simply refusing to believe they
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 08:55 AM by Bluerthanblue
could possibly ever be WRONG- and the discomfort of facing the suffering, evil, and horrible deeds that their poor choice has brought upon the world-

No one likes to have to face their fallibility- but to refuse to do that, is to condemn yourself and this world to a continuum of more of the same.

Ironically, i've found that most folks who walk around like pompous assholes, do so because underneath they feel very small and afraid. And the 'big man' facade is exactly that- a false persona to hide how vulnerable, and inept they believe themselves to be.

Being fully human, means not always being 'right', able to admit shortcomings, and the desire to learn and grow. I pity those caught in the web of idolatry- either of themselves, or their leader- They are the least 'free' people in the world.
