On my local news radio this morning-they bought the GOP line
I live in Philly which is usually pretty liberal. KYW1060 is the AM news radio station. This morning they were talking about the White House response to Katrina and they hit every one of the GOP talking points-they said "blame game" twice and said "local New Orleans officials who failed to act" twice. It is unbelievable.

I guess it doesnt matter how lame or untrue their weak talking points are, the media is just going to eat them up and accept them unquestionably without even thinking about it. We already know that the braindead people who are loyal to Bush just need a couple of phrases and that gives them all they need to defend him.

Even this mess I think is not going to be enough to perceptibly change peoples opinions of Bush. Even people dying right in front of our eyes on the TV. Now that they have a media blackout everyone can go back to their lives without having to see the suffering and the White House will provide them with their little phrases to say. And that will be it.

I know it doesnt help anything to say that the American people are stupid but damn! What the hell is wrong with people that they refuse to see the truth? Its so frustrating!

3. Yeah
Unfortunately its not like a call-in talk show. Its just the news over and over again in a loop. But I could email them or call their sales department and tell them Im going to boycot their advertisers.

2. My local yokels were on script too
Talking about the $2000 debit cards that they are giving away. Laughing about what they will be buying. Racism is rampant nowadays on these RW talk shows. People are really showing their true colors with no hesitation.

6. Maybe being racist helps them not to feel bad
Like maybe they watched the images on TV and they started to feel something in their cold dead hearts. Compassion for there fellow man. And we cant have that or else they would have to start wondering where was the help, aid, food and support for those people? It cant be possible that Bush Allmighty might have failed? So they let themselves think "Oh well they are only black people anyway".

5. Philly radio is pretty conservative overall
The town may be liberal, but the broadcasters are not, especially the morning shows and the news media. (Philly morning radio is awful, chock-full and jam-packed with "wacky" morning teams unfraid to use the word "sucks" and tell "ta-ta" jokes.)

On the other hand, it is easy to complain to Philly-area media. Just write a letter and detail the mistakes and/or biases, and you may get invited to have your say, on-air. Several bat-guano crazy conservatives have done this succesfully in the past decade, including a couple who have gone on to become well-paid shills and lobbyists.

If you can get a couple of people to complain in tandem, so much the better. Philly conservatives tend not to have the the 110% certainty that your average Fox cheerleader has.

8. I find myself wondering why * didn't just pick up the phone and
call - how come the Right Wing defines crisp leadership as sitting on your ass waiting for someone to call? Surely the president of the United States could be just a little fucking proactive every now and then yes? It was a category 4 hurricane with an estimated 15-20 foot tidal surge they don't hit the coast every day. Surely he could have gotten in contract he must have access to a cell phone? He could have called the FEMA guy and said "Brownie things may be bad - get your people ready".

But no - he ate cake and played a guitar. Cause he don't care about anyone but himself - he has to get on with his life.

9. Did you read the thread yesterday about the National Response Plan?
That was a really good thread. I cant remember who posted it but it explained very clearly that it was his job to take care of it-or rather the federal governments job as per the National Response Plan. Once he declared it a disaster area (which he did three days before the hurricane) then the federal government has jurisdiction.
