Katrina Should Blow Away Bush's Tax-Cut Plan
President Needs To Focus On Recovery

Helen Thomas, Hearst White House columnist

With a national catastrophe on his hands, President George W. Bush should drop his plans to pad the pockets of the rich with even more tax cuts.

But his proposal to make permanent the temporary income-tax rate cuts -- which provide the biggest breaks for the most affluent -- is still alive, as is his plan to eliminate the estate tax.

...

White House press secretary Scott McClellan dismissed the hurricane crisis as a "one time" deal and said Bush wants to move ahead on his agenda.

Republicans on Capitol Hill are proceeding with a budget resolution providing $70 billion in tax cuts and $35 billion in spending cuts for entitlement programs, including a $10 billion slash in Medicaid and Medicare funding.

1. "one time" deal with negative returns.
Bush IS in denial. Bush really doesn't realize the social burden that those evacues will have on local and state services.
