Shrub's "What went wrong ?" comment to Pelosi. I get it.
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 10:04 AM by librechik
Nothing went wrong. Everything went just as planned.

They meant to not respond in a timely fashion.

They meant to use Katrina as a "training ground" for their little bureaucratic fascist followers.

They meant to turn away help and supplies.

They meant to keep the military far away from the places they were needed, idle and bored.

They meant to stay on vacation and ignore the problem even after being warned.

They meant ALL ALONG to shelve urban problems and instead give their cronies billions from tax coffers.

They meant ALL ALONG to allow our mid to lower level jobs to be shipped overseas so Americans are forced to join the ranks of the impoverished or become criminals. After all, their cronies profit from it, and they are generous to the GOP.

They meant to starve the poor.

They meant to kill them by withholding humane medical assistance.

They meant ALL ALONG to criminalize as many young plack males as possible and leave the children and elderly without sons and fathers. They meant to split up families by forcing mothers to work outside the home before allowing them a stipend, leaving the children unsupervised and without anchor.

They meant to level New Orleans and send its "undesirables" far away so new laws can allow them to seize the property and put in their own businesses and resort homes.

They meant to shut Democrats out from solving these problems.

They meant to shift the blame to the victims.

I get it.

2. Yeah, unless you believe he's in catatonic denial,
which is possible, the only way to take that is, "So...40,000 dead bodies floating in a lake of toxic sludge, that was your desired outcome?"

Oy,

The Plaid Adder

3. These have been my thoughts all along as well
B*s response play very well for the freeper crowd.
Had he responded in a timely and compassionate manner he would have been seen as giving in to minority demands. Notice he has successfully separated the areas of concern (Miss, Ala, LA) along party lines.

4. And are the people in Miss, & Ala
getting any better response from FEMA? Doesn't look like it except for Trent Lott.

22. Yes, and by letting the Federal response look poor, he has an excuse
to remove it from government completely and PRIVATIZE humanitarian/infrastructure demands and give in to the evil designs of Grover Norquist.

I think that's also why they picked Brownie -- he's the one designated to go down with the ship.

5. Shrub was trying to be clever, and got caught out there
Even from Pelosi's description, you can sorta see what Shrub was going for. Pelosi asks Bush if he is going to fire Brown. Bush retorts "Why should I fire Brown?" Pelosi says "Because of everything that went wrong." Bush says "What went wrong." He was trying to demonstrate that without an investigation, he doesn't have a basis to fire Brown. That's his point: How do you know what went wrong before an investigation? But Bush's fatal flaw - his unmitigated arrogance - did him in here. Rather than just saying that, he thought it better to petulantly spar with Pelosi. In doing so, he gave her a talking point. "What went wrong?" can mean two things: 1) We don't yet know what went wrong, OR 2) Nothing went wrong. Pelosi portrayed Bush's statement as #2 - a shrewd rhetorical move on her part, and because his exact words were "What went wrong?" (they would have denied it already if those weren't his exact words) Bush is stuck having to defend the point. Bush thought he'd spar with Pelosi, but instead she ytrapped him into making a stupid ambiguous statement that could then be used to damn him. Can you imagine the sheer joy of getting to cross-examine this imbecile? He's like one of those cocky criminals who think that they'll save themselves on the witness stand, only to realize later that they are damning themselves, and not intellectually up to the task of verbal jousting with a trained attorney. Bush got punked, big time.

7. and it is now always framed into a question that goes...
"what went right and what went wrong" ...to reframe the image of the whole picture...i dont care if anything went "right"...when people died and died and died...often televised by reporters who could get in...but rescue with food and water...was not only not sent in...but prevented from intering the city when it did come from everyday citizens and private agencies...and was made to sit outside the city...while people continued to die from lack of that very food and water just a few miles away..inside the city. there is no "something went right"..no matter what it was...that can counter that one thing that went so wrong.

19. Of course
Why else would all of this had happened? There's a photo of Bush that was posted from being taken on August 28th and he's watching the weather channel, so we all know he knew. Why would FEMA keep people out from rescuing? Why so much mismanagement?
