Looking through my photo album of pictures of NO, tears in my eye
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 10:19 AM by julialnyc
After 9/11 both my best friend and I got laid off our jobs in NYC. We both decided that we should shake off our feeling of despair and take advantage of having some time off before we needed to find another full time job. We both got in my beat up honda and drove across the country. We landed in New Orleans Halloween 2001. The pictures show the amazing spirit of New Orleans..... you have never seen more creative costumes! What really brought a tear to my eye were all of the signs saying "NO loves New York". Man, I wish I had a scanner!!

1. oh, and picture of us by the docks
I'm not quite sure what it's technically called, but in the aquarium area............. I couldn't help but get a little sick looking at the water (I know at the time it was just water, but it really gave me a visual upset

2. Yes, the costumes look a lot like the the Bahamas 'Junkanoo' costumes.
Very colorful and beautiful. In a variety of sizes...

NO was so rich in culture.

4. christmas times
was in the darker end of the French Quarter during Christmas in 2001 and a woman came up to me on the street and said there was a party two blocks down. Went to a bar called the "Stage Hand" or the "Stage Door" where they were having their Christmas party - all locals, was never welcomed so warmly, everyone buying drinks for everyone, the owner coming around with rounds and hoer duerves (sp)catered in, going back to the hole of a kitchen to load up plates of food that i can't even describe, then everyone went back into the private garden to take swings at a osama bin laden pinata - only one serious head beaning but he was up in no time. One of the best nights ever.
