ALONE!!!!!! WE ARE ALONE IN THIS COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 11:01 AM by growlypants
WE are alone in this country. Truly ALONE. Its terrifying. We are no better than those poor people left stranded atop buildings and in the Superdome. WE ARE ALONE. If it wasnt for DU I may have lost it already. And I believe that I may have truly JUST gone over the edge. I'm sitting here by my coumputer actually Shaking and NAuseas. Here is what happened....

I just called Nancy Pelosi's office (1-202-225-4965) to demand that the IMPEACHEMENT process be started. And to my HORROR and utter DISGUST, I was given the Scott Mclellan TALKING POINTS from yesterday. This woman who fields calls over there actually said to me the follwing: "Congresswoman Pelosi's first priority is making sure those affected by hurricaine Katrina are receiving the assistnace they need. That is her number one priority" I was dumbstruck. I was unable to speak. I was finally able to (scream) at this zombie "THE NUMBER ONE PRIORTIY SHOULD BE TO GET THESE CRIMINALS OUT OF OFFICE!!! IF THIS HAD BEEN DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE THIS CATASTROPHE IN NOLA WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED!!!!!" She then REPEATED the exact same sentence as before, said "but I will give the congresswoman your message" thanked me, and HUNG UP!!! Pelosi was my final hope. She's pretty much all we have, and now apparently SHE has abandoned us for, what, pretty politics???? AAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

When will these Democrats finally wake up??? For fuck sakes, what in the hell are they afraid of???? WHAT ARE THEY SO AFRAID OF????? What is it going to take for these numbnuts to awaken from their comfortable slumber and see the nightmare that has occured to this country as a result of this FIFTH REICH???? WE ARE FUCKED. period. The people WE have elected to represent US have TURNED AGAINST US!!! And we have NO RECOURSE. NO WHATSOEVER. This administraiotn can, apparently, do ANYTHING IT WANTS! I am absolutely HORRIFIED beyond belief by this. Will it take a nuclear detonation in NYC to awaken this idiots??? Aparently, LYING TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, starting a fraudulant WAR and getting our soldiers killed so the war PROFITIERS can make BILLIONS didnt awaken them. The deaths of possibly 10,000 FELLOW AMERICANS on our own soil due to utter incompetence resulting from CRONYISM didnt awaken them. BU$H DOESNT EVEN THINK HE DID ANYTHING WRONG!!!!! And I highly doubt that 1 million angry constituents marching on DC in a few weeks will have any affect either.

So is there truly nothing we, as AMERICANS, can do to literally SAVE OURSELVES from this administration?? Our own government has forsaken us, so what are our options??? We cant FIGHT THEM, the military would pound us into submission in 15 seconds. We apparently CANT vote them out of office, they majority of the sheep in this country think all is fine and dandy and "those dumb niggers should have left anyway":puke: We cant rely on our representatives on the hill, for they relish their prescious place in the government and the power that comes with it more then they do their own PEOPLE. I have no clue what is left for us to do. I cant even renounce my citizenship and move to Canada, they have made that nearly impossible too. So here it sit, behind my computer, helpless. Im going to climb atop my roof with a homemde sign that says "HELP US" and wait. For help that will NEVER come.

**UPDATE: Just called Senator Kennedy's office and received the EXACT SAME SPEECH. They must have been threatened or are all using the same talking points memo. Disqusting. His num, ber, if you wuold like to call them, is 202-224-4543

6. That's basically how I feel too.
I'm very afraid. I feel like I've been left alone with the fictional character "Jason" (from Friday 13th) and I'm running but it will do no good. The killer always catches the victim eventually.

7. I think a lot of us are just hanging by our fingernails, trying
very hard not to lose it ... however, I am very close to being diagnosed as a 'rage-alcoholic'. I am so angry.

Our government cannot protect us under any circumstances ...

I point the finger of blame, and hold every government official, congressperson, senator and the entire White House Administration responsible and accountable in this horrible catastrophe.

And they are going to push additional tax cuts for the rich ... The very soul of this country is VERY sick.... and negative karma continues to amass.

9. The Republic is almost dead.
I say "almost" because there remains some elements of life in it. The problem is, people don't understand the reality of our situation -- not as clearly as you do.

First, the Federal government is being controlled by something sinister -- call it the military industrial complex or the national security state or the fascist corporations that are the core of Wall Street. Whatever.

Second, those in control have as their primary agenda the continuance of their global economic hegemony -- and particularly in relation to hydrocarbon energy production, marketing and distribution, arms and WMD production, marketing and distribution and last but hardly least, illicit drug production, marketing, distribution and the money laundering that results from that.

THIS IS THE REALITY: We live inside a Criminal Culture ruled by CRIMINAL ELITES who operate outside any laws. Worse, they manipulate the laws that they have put in place to eliminate the competition WHICH INCLUDES THE WORKING CLASSES AND THE POOR.

Apparently they have now decided that what is needed is to depopulate the planet by several billion people. How to do this -- and how to deal with the social unrest that will inevitably develop as this progresses? That is what they are working out right now with the situation created by Katrina.

Are there alternative solutions? I think, yes, there are. But it is going to take a LOT of people. MILLIONS of people working together in concert. Are we there yet? We're getting closer.

15. If you can see that so clearly, and most here on DU can see that,
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 11:14 AM by growlypants
then WHY WHY WHY WHY can the rest of the country not see this. And I cant see millions of people in this country EVER getting togethwe to do ANYTHING. They DO NOT CARE. They simply do not care. As long as they can still go to the mall, take their tennis lessons, go to soccer practice and watch some inane show about housewives, their little pathetic lives are "perfect" They choose NOT to alert themselves to what is going on around them. Like barbara Bu$H said "I dont want to bother my pretty mind with thoughts like that." That thought process is pervasive in this country. WE ARE THROUGH

22. This has always been the case. Eventually they WILL care.
Just as the people in NO and MIS and AL now care.

When the consequences of fascism touch YOU and YOUR LIFE and the people YOU LOVE, then you care.

And believe me, this IS going to get much much worse before it ever gets better, if, indeed, it ever does.

I understand your fear. I understand your frustration. But what is needed now is leadership. When people are able to articulate a problem in a way that makes sense, then something real can change. That is the most important point. We are here to educate ourselves and one another. We are here to help develop an analysis of our situation that is clear, concise and can be used to PREDICT what will happen next. When we can do that, we can build strategies that work.

I have to go to work now, perhaps I'll be able to give you more to think about later. In any case, it is true that if you think the government of the United States as it is currently constituted is on your side -- indeed YOU ARE ALONE. However, if you think this through differently, that there is a 'new government' forming -- a true government OF FOR AND BY THE PEOPLE -- then you are not alone. We are here and we are growing day by day.

at the lack of the dem response. Can they really be that dumb or are they just part of the whole mess? I feel utterly alone, they do not care one bit. There are the few like Conyers that will always stand up for us they should be backed by the entire party. Why is it that they too are ignored? It's all up to us. It's grassroots action directly to the people not to our representation or we sink. I've never felt so alone.

28. it does began to feel impossible to hang on
Even Conyers? One of the few really good guys who does see with eyes wide open what is going on and has been working on trying to make a change. I just can barely hold on myself. I visit this site like 100 times a day, from work, from home, tyring to find solice in knowing that at least others see things as I do, even if we are not in control and have no power. But I have held on to the belief that now, after this most horrible of events, after the clear negligence and the deaths and destruction in our own country, not a country on the other side of the world which is harder for these people to get a clue on, that at least now our Democratic representatives would find it imperative to speak out with the same outrage that we are all feeling. But no, you are telling me, even now, they wimp out. I can hardly stand it and am shaking and need to go cry for a while. Really, someone tell me, what are we to do. I feel like this must have been what it was like in Nazi Germany for those who knew the horror of what was going on and found themselves surrounded more and more completely by the evil of their own government and complicit citizens.

29. SOLIDARITY! First priority is always individual life. We are Democrats!
Not goose stepping, "ends justify the means, my country right or wrong, sign me up to be cannon fodder" Republicans". As long as there are people waiting to be evacuated and evacuees waited to be placed in temporary homes, our hearts should be with our fellow Democrats from New Orleans.
Here is just one story about how wonderul the NOLA Dems are. Last January, instead of going back to DC to protest the coronation like I did in 2001, I went to NOLA for the Jazz Funeral for Democracy. The turn out was amazing! There were people dressed in their finest funeral garb. There was a jazz band, a horse and carriage with a coffin. Best of all, the crowds of New Orleans citizens whom we passed cheered us on. Many people used their cell phones to send picture images to their friends and families. I felt so at home there. I only recall one heckler, an elderly man dressed in demin with a backpack who gave us the middle finger, and he looked like the kind of guy who would have given the finger to just about anything.
Right now, we are faced with a choice. Do we let NOLA sink into the ocean, declare it a martyr to the cause and use it as an excuse to attack the Right Wing jugular? Or, do we reach out and lift our friends and their city from Lake Ponchatrain? Do I even need to ask? There are no acceptable losses for a Democrat. Every life is precious. Every opportunity to help another person is taken.
Congressional Democrats who say "We are going to help the people of NOLA now and hold someone accountable later. Oh, and by the way, Michael Brown, would you please resign so someone with more experience can take your place?" are doing the right thing. Republicans who get on television and talk about penalties for people who didnt evacuate (Santorum) or God's wrath for the sinners of NOLA or the blame lying with the Mayor and Governor (Delay) are not winning any kind of public relations war with the American people. They are just trying to shore up the support of their own voting base, which they are in danger of losing before 2006.
For those at DU who absolutely MUST view this in terms of politics, the Democratic strategy is a sound political one, and anyone who insists that DUers start demanding that Congressional Dems change their tune is being foolish or counterproductive (or maybe doesnt want the Dems to prosper). The GOP strategy is costing them the South. Just look at Joe Scarborough. Look at the Fort Worth Star Telegram editorial page. The administration treated the Gulf Coast like a third world country. And now, instead of showing leadership and compassion, the GOP is showing weakness, attempting to cast blame all over the place. The South is not amused by GOP antics. The South finds the Democratic response---take care of the immediate crisis NOW, assign blame later--much more acceptable. The South may well turn to the Dems in 2006.

33. You are alone if you think of the government as the ONLY thing...
you can rely on. Yesterday, I spent about two hours watching the local New Orleans news (WWL) and saw wonderful stories about volunteers (medical and rescue mainly) that had no connection to New Orleans that had come from all over the country to help out.

Seeing those people, risking their lives and caring, made me realize that we are never truly alone.

If nothing else, this disaster has highlighted the caring and compassion of the majority of American people. The problem is that our government doesn't represent us -- and probably never has. In the case of Katrina, they've done more harm than good with their demands to be "in charge." All of the so-called fears expressed by FEMA regarding private citizens and organizations coming in to help, shows a basic distrust of the American people that I find very disturbing. Maybe they should just step aside and let us take care of our own. Power to the people!

36. Response from Earl Blumenauer (D) Oregon RE: impeach
I wrote to my congressman a couple of days ago. Here is the response I recieved today.

Dear Mrs. XXXXXX:

Thank you for contacting me about President Bush's ill-advised actions in Iraq and the possibility of holding impeachment hearings. I think that having Congress work together in a cooperative fashion while proceeding with an impeachment of President Bush are mutually exclusive.

After watching Congress and the country be torn apart over the
impeachment process against President Clinton, there is little desire in Congress to have the nation undergo another divisive and painful political spectacle.

I find that the American public is much more focused and united on
issues of improving security, investing in education, and protecting the environment than is reflected by the rhetoric coming out of Congress. That is why I continue to work both to advance constructive items (such as the House-passed bipartisan reform of the federal flood insurance program, which I co-authored) while speaking out against things that I feel are ill-advised, like the unilateral preemptive attack against Iraq.

I do appreciate your taking the time to share your opinion with me.

Sincerely,

Earl Blumenauer
Member of Congress
