I like my neighbor. He's a retired colonel, about 65 years old, good sense of humor and always willing to lend a hand. I help him out frequently as well with heavy lifting etc. We don't really hang out but are on good terms.

Things got a little more silent between us after the war started, then slowly we started chatting occasionally, then during the '04 election he said, "I know they are trying to smear Kerry, but I just don't think it wise to change leadership at this time." I respect the colonel because he does seem like a genuinely good man and since I have never served in the military and am sort of a long hair I didn't feel like arguing with him over the validity of the war. I did have an "Attack Iraq, No!" sticker on my car at the time.

He and his wife are religious fundamentalists, always going to retreats and such, so I assumed he was swayed by dimwit's phony piousness. He does have a foul mouth. Military background, I'm guessing.

He has relatives who have lost everything in Louisiana and he is pissed! Pissed off at George Bush. "Playing his god damned guitar and giving speeches as my nephew looses everything he's worked for.
And now trying to say that the feds did everything they could and it's also the state's fault. That's bullshit!" Of course, I took the opportunity to broaden the scope, pointing out the cuts to FEMA, the cronyism at FEMA, the sheer stupidity of not being prepared for this when it had been written up in journals etc.

I plan to print out a few more items to put in his mailbox, but bush has already lost this supporter.

1. Good for him... and YOU!!
I'm sure he has friends and family that he'll be passing his new found outrage onto also.

This gives me hope! Thanks for sharing! :)
