Regarding the $2,000 debit cards |
|
First of all, I'm not so sure that the money will be actually funded. Second, the amount is woefully inadequate. However, the transaction occurs. If I put myself in the position of a neo-fascist who is designing the program, my first thought will be "how do I do this and get them to sign a release?" Trust me, that is what they are thinking. They realize that 2,000 per soul is a small price to pay to get releases for any liability. I hope that someone is watching this in congress. If the people who are desperate for the money sign a bunch of crap in order to get money to survive, it will have been another travesty of justice.

2. But I think that's just a stopgap measure |
|
I could be mistaken, but I think the Red Cross debit cards are being passed out only until FEMA is ready, which, as we have seen time after time, might be never.

3. Where Is All The Money? |
|
I am thinking the same thing Hatchet! The Fed. Mafia, no doubt will get these desperate people to sign some sort of release that will inhibit any further assistance or even the return to their homes. I would not put it past this scum of a government!
What I want is an accountability of all the funds that have been donated towards the Federal Victims Of Bu$h*t Katrina! There are millions that have to be accounted for. Whose going to take care of that matter? The same scum of the Earth that is going to conduct an investigation on his own criminal cabinet.

4. No, it's really from FEMA: its standard operating procedure for disasters |
|
At EVERY federally declared disaster, FEMA gives cash as quickly as possible to the victims. $2,000 is the minimum handed out in disasters; sometimes it's more. The maximum cash total eventually given can be up to $26,000, but the amount handed out above the minimum is decided on a case-by-case basis and requires forms.
If a survivor prefers, they can have the $2,000 deposited directly into their existing bank account. Or they can request a standard paper check and open a new account with it. However since many of the survivors' banks were also destroyed/damaged by the hurricane, and since the survivors may not be planning to stay in Houston or wherever they are when they can get the $2,000, debit cards are a reasonable method for distributing funds.
So y'all take off those tinfoil hats for now. There will be plenty of other slimy moves by Bush to provide financial gain for his buddies.

I am not questioning your knowledge I am trying to tap into any knowledge you have. Is any of this talk of waivers sound like it holds water? http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4708092&mesg_id=4708092

10. Correction. It isn't $2000 per soul, but $2000 per adult soul. |
|
Single parent with children, you still only get $2000. I guess children don't have souls.....
Personally, I think this whole thing stinks to high heaven and the government is intentionally performing their own scam on it's must vulnerable citizens during a time when most, I'm sure, are still suffering from shock. It is shameful that the members of Congress aren't SCREAMING about this!

11. It's a start but wouldnt the following be better |
|
a) help get them jobs b) get a liveable wage with those jobs c) give them universal health care, apply b and c to everyone. The way we treat the nation's poor in this country is appalling.
