morgue erecting fence to keep media out
"a chain-link fence was being installed, chiefly to keep out media."
It's creepy that DHS and Chertoff has authority over the DMORT teams.

Sleepy town set for tide of bodies
By TIMOTHY APPLEBY

ST. GABRIEL, LA. -- As a huge refrigerated truckload of bodies slowly turned the corner and trundled into the makeshift morgue set up next to the town hall, St. Gabriel police chief Kevin Ambeau stood in the hot sun and outlined the task ahead.

"We're doing our part. It's a small part in history, and this is going to be a pretty big operation," he said. "We're going to have more dead bodies here in St. Gabriel that we do people."

With just 5,300 residents in a town whose chief employers are 13 chemical plants and two state prisons (now overflowing with 2,000 extra inmates brought in from New Orleans), that could prove an understatement.

As the corpse-recovery operation gathered momentum yesterday, chiefly through boats plying New Orleans's poorest neighbourhoods, where triangle symbols have been posted on houses to show that a body or bodies are inside, estimates of the toll remain just estimates. <snip>
