Why are they making people wait in those lines for the debit cards?
Why didn't they go around the shelters last night with forms and clip boards and make sure that every cot had a copy of the form and a pen to fill it out. They could then have gone back and collected them and there would have been no line for these people to have to wait in. If they needed help filling out the forms, they could have set up areas to go to get that help, as a group. Explaining the forms once to a group would have been easier than one at a time and would have sped up the process for them too. Once the forms were processed, they could then return to the cot (numbers assigned or some other way of assuring that this claim was for this person) and distributed the cards without making them wait in 90 degree heat for yet another day!

It just boggles my mind how hard they are making all of this!

1. That would be logical
There has been not one shred of logic during this entire debacle.

I'm an Executive Assistant and my job in a nutshell is to find the quickest, easiest way to get things done. I'm so frustrated right now I can hardly breath! Who is running this show anyway? Good God, people! Get your stinking act together!!!

2. Probably so they can fill out the proper IRS forms
I'm guessing they'll tax the $2000 as income.

4. Because they are black, poor, and have a
"criminal element" thing going on. They will be slitting one another throats for the debit cards in about a week or so. We will be hearing all kinds of wild made up stories pretty soon. Plus, any with property are probably unknowingly turning it over to Halliburton by signing on the dotted line.

7. I was saying something similar this morning
Wonder how long the welcome will last after there is just ONE black on white crime reported in Houston, San Antonio, or any other area that was "safe" from "those type of people" last week? It will NOT be pretty when the locals get vocal about it then.

5. These people are fed, aren't they?
The best time to give them the cards is when they line up already for their meals.. They could have each person sign for their card as they get their meals..that would be too easy..

FEMA fuck up #2,698:

Yes, the debit cards are coming. But no, it's not as easy as flashing a Louisiana ID.

FEMA spokesman Ed Conley could not say when the cards would be available, but another spokesman told KTRH News Radio today that evacuees can expect to wait seven to 10 days.
