Michael Moore moves his operation to Louisiana; Camp Casey-Covington
The Office Has Moved
Thursday, September 08, 2005

RESPONSE TO MY LETTER
The response to today's letter has been overwhelmingly generous. Thank you, all of you, who have contributed to Camp Casey-Covington in Covington, Louisiana. Over 200,000 dollars was donated in the first few hours and the mail indicates that thousands of you are shipping the much-needed emergency items to our relief center on the shores of Lake Ponchatrain.

I have closed my New York production office and flown my crew down to Louisiana to assist in the effort. Retired Army colonel Ann Wright (who joined us on our election tour last fall) is there at Camp Casey-Covington helping to organize our relief effort and working with the dozens of Vietnam and Iraqi War vets who are going into New Orleans every day to rescue people. They are also distributing food, water and other necessities to area shelters.

My crew will arrive later today to make sure that every item you are sending gets to the needy IMMEDIATELY, not days or weeks from now. And I will personally see that every single cent you have donated goes to those afflicted.

Late in the day we were contacted by someone offering the use of their jet to fly supplies down to Louisiana. Then came the offer of a boat from a man in Dallas who is driving it to Covington for our vets to use...

DON'T BELIEVE THE P.R.
The Bush spin machine keeps issuing the cheery news that the networks keep reporting without questioning it. Last week they kept telling us that there were "30,000" or "40,000" National Guard troops either already in or on their way to New Orleans. None of that was true.

Today's news that "debit cards worth 2,000 dollars" were being handed to each homeless hurricane evacuee. A friend of mine, who's in-laws live in Jefferson Parish, told me that they went to the FEMA center today to get their debit cards and they said that not only weren't there any debit cards, the FEMA people there didn't know anything about it.

Is there a reporter out there willing to find out what's really going on?

FREE FLIGHTS FOR EVACUEES
We need to start a frequent flyer miles bank so that people can donate their free miles to evacuees so they can fly to cities where they may have family members who can take care of them. Anyone want to give this a shot? Write to my webmaster.

THANK YOUS
Thank you Sean Penn for risking your safety and health by going in the toxic waters of New Orleans to save people.

Thank you Kanye West for telling it like it is on the telethon last Friday.

I happened to pass along the link to a couple of reporters who were riding in my shuttle at Crawford. Thought they might want to do a follow up on their stories.... :)

13. I not sure I'm really comfortable with that statement, the guys on the bus
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 01:24 AM by anarchy1999
took the substantial action and showed real leadership and have been there to show where we could ask for accountability! Michael has gone to aid and assist them in their heroic efforts, is how I would like to view it and I hope that everyone else does as well.

Our Vets FOR Peace were there on the ground, first, Last Friday.

Peace,
anarchy1999

I'll be very unhappy if it is portrayed in any other way and I would hope that all of you at DU would stand behind me in that position.

on edit:
I'm also not really pleased with this statement as well:

"My crew will arrive later today to make sure that every item you are sending gets to the needy IMMEDIATELY, not days or weeks from now. And I will personally see that every single cent you have donated goes to those afflicted."

This is all I've been saying every post I ever made. That every dollar or supply donated was going to help. I guess if MM sends down his production crew we can now all be assured and safe in knowing that the Vets For Peace are really on the up and up. I think his statement could have been worded just a tad more diplomatically.

Is Mike showing up or just sending his crew?

15. Not sure how what I stated diminishes from what the VfP have been ...
... doing; in fact, what Michael has done by moving his operation from NYC to Covington to support them both validates and amplifies their effort and dedication.

What is it you are serving by taking such an antagonistic stance to a genuine sentiment of respect for what a person with an international, vast reputation is doing to contribute to the valiant Veterans for Peace.

Why would you even consider making such an offensive post?

Peace.

17. My post is not meant to be offensive in any way. Have you once posted
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 01:40 AM by anarchy1999
about the Vets in Covington? I don't see my post as antagonistic, I apologize to all if you find it so. I did though, during the month of August deal with too many wanting to know where donations were going during Camp Casey.

I did state, why would anyone feel the need to make a statement like "I will personally make sure ....", about the Vets for Peace. I took offense, I don't know why you would.

on edit:

I will ask again though, is Mike going down or just sending his crew?

Sorry.

20. I have donated to them and, just today, began arranging to ...
... provide every frequent flyer mile my wife and I have assembled to make them available to them to help, further.

I have enormous respect for VfP.

In addition, my wife and I are making monthly donations to Cindy Sheehan and GSFP, matching the amount of money that Congressman Conyers committed to their effort.

I'm doing all I can and I thought an acknowledgment of the fact that Michael didn't just ask people for money, but was willing to move his operation to Covington and ensure all that money was quickly distributed to those in need, was a simple act of respect for his efforts.

That is all my message conveys.

Appreciate all you are doing and please recognize that when someone says something positive about someone it doesn't imply something negative about someone else -- it's just a simple statement of gratitude and respect.

Peace.

21. That is great and I meant no offense towards you or MM at all.
I thought his statement could have been worded a tad better.

I'm very defensive of the Vets in Covington and our Vets period. I've spent the better part of a month with many of them.

Peace back at you and thanks for helping them all!
