BREAKING: HURRICANE Ophelia
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 04:00 PM by Bluebear
Wonderful.

CNN: She is just off the Atlantic coast of Florida, completely stationary. No idea what it will do, it could loop out and strengthen and come back.

Lovely...I've been watching her for days because I don't live too far from Charleston SC.

We all know we have no Federal response, so I will be gone with the kiddies and pets.

24. We have been having the weirdest weather for the last 5 days
This storm has just been hanging out off the coast and it been windy most of the time. Not much rain with it, apparently that's been going back into the ocean, but for it to continue to strength is a surprise.

This isn't like a regular hurricane, it's more like an early norhteaster.

Time to check NOAA and go fill up the gas tank I suppose.

Wait a second, this state is full of freepers. So much for that theory.

Anyway this thing looks like it should go back to sea, so in all likelyhood the weather will actually get better. It's really sucked lately, just weird and depressing weather.

Three evacuations heck, I was in three of them. My truck got smashed in the first one and we lost our electric for 5 days in each of the next two.

Here's the 5 day map. Definitely going to have to keep on eye on this one, crap.

58. That's the part the real freepers never consider
the hardship that it puts on all kinds of people. Hurricanes don't discriminate. Plus, unless you have flooding like in NO, which is an unique situation, most of the damage is usually close to coast where more of the rich people live. They just don't get it.

that's what happened in new orleans.... those with money fled... those without money were left behind....

i read an interesting story about new orleans.... in most situations money goes to water(rich folks like to live on the water) but in new orleans it was the poor folks who lived closest to it because of the danger it presented....

73. Funny you should say that
The head of our emergency operations that posts on a local board started out saying this was a nor'easter. All I know is that it's made me pay attention. I went out tonight and stocked up on snacks and dry goods, filled water bottles, filled my empty propane tank, filled my gas tank ($55...ouch) and am sitting here biting my fingernails. After last year the slightest wind scares me. Every time an update comes out, I am THERE. It's a pain in the ass that all the models show different projections. No one knows what it is doing and it is driving me crazy! I do know that after the rain we got from this a couple a days ago, if we get much more I am stuck. Our roads won't be able to handle much more. I live in the country and the ditches are up to the road as it is. Much more and our roads out here will not be drivable. I am keeping a close ey on this storm. It's unpredictable and that scares me. We are already ebing told to conserve our energy...I don't think it would take too much for us to lose power completely, we already had the power flicker out once tonight. Be vigilant everyone. Otherwise we'll be the ones being told to "pull ourselves up by our bootstraps". :puke:

God I hate that phrase.

34. I guess us Floridians are in deep doo-doo w/ the Bush Brothers & Brown
running the show.

I wonder how many of the Repubs here are going to be saying that Brown should be kept on when the hurricane is bearing down on US.

My own die-hard Repub. mother was saying that Brown needs to be fired and isn't qualified.

If we have problems in SW FLorida or the panhandle (two Bush bastions) and the people here get po'd that things weren't handled properly the Repub. party will be in biiiig trouble. They get a lot of money from the people here - not to mention the votes.

48. If it follows the yellow path it could loop into the gulf and we could
have Katrina part II. I think, knowing nothing about it, that the green path seems most likely which means that it will probably hit Georgia or Florida.

Before Katrina, about 24 hours before landfall, they all lined up together and showed New Orleans almost directly in the path. I remember saying outloud "Oh shit."

For her, I feel so afraid
on her twenty-second birthday
she already is an old maid

To her, death is "quite romantic"
she wears an iron vest
her profession is her religion
her sin is her lifelessness

And though her gaze
is fixed upon
Noah's great rainbow

She spends her time
peeking in on
Desolation Row
