Update from my friend in the 82nd Airborne in NO.
(relayed through his ex-girlfriend my best freind)
I posted about this yesterday; he is in the French Quarter to keep order is all that I know. Said yesterday that the smell is such that he almost couldn't eat(when he had food) and had to force himself.
Today said that they are sleeping on the asphalt parking lot of some casino and have not had MREs or water for 2 days; think they will get re-supplied tomorrow. That in their area they are NOT doing the forcible removing; just helping those that want to leave. Someone there is running their bar by candlelight and some locals are getting drunk off their asses. Offered him free lodging/meals if he returns for Mardi Gras. The locals have offered to share their food with them but they turned it down; didn't want to deplete what little they had and also didn't want to be accused of hurting an already bad situation. 's all I know right now.
They obviously have decent cell service; my girlfriend said he sent her a camera-phone pic of him there.

4. Last I knew of he was a Repub.
Not going to slam him here; he was a really sweet guy ( stayed at my house alot last year). We had the argument once but he IS an Iraq vet; so I didn't get into it hot and heavy with him. We will see after this. He is also from Alabama. His family is safe thank goodness.
