I gotta share a story about a freeper EX
My son called me tonight and said his dad, my ex, called him to share some racist, N.O. jokes with him. My son is 25 and out on his own and I was divorced when he was 9. His father is a Vietnam vet and was quite liberal when we were together, but has become a freeper since he began listening to RW hate radio. He calls himself a dixiecrat and is a fundamentalist Christian.

I tell you all this because it is what my son told me next that I want everyone to remember. He vented to me and then said, "Mom, I want you to know, the hate stops here. When Dad is gone that will be it, no more racism or hate in this family."

Never give up saying what is right. We influence children and friends whether we know it or not. Trying not to say anything against his father while teaching him why his father's views were wrong took all my skill. I'm glad I didn't give up.

Thanks for listening

And congratulations to you for raising such a man. "The hate stops here." Wow...that's beautiful!

7. I agree! And as the single mom
of a teenage son whose father is a mega-freeper, I know exactly the challenge you faced raising your son to both respect his father and reject his father's views. Good for you and your son, you've obviously done a wonderful job!

How the hell anyone could make any jokes at all about the Katrina victims is totally beyond my understanding. Especially anyone who calls themself a Christian.

when someone tells him he actually has to live his faith he'll run. He has before.

11. Thanks,
sometimes I wondered, as all single moms do, if he didn't need his father more immediately in his life. He never wondered that. I think the post about him having an old soul is true.

17. You know my son is not what you picture...
He is covered in tats and is a harley mechanic and a rider. I always think about him when I see tough lookin bikers, he has taught me that you can't judge anyone, or you will miss the gold.

18. Erinlough, you just brought tears to my eyes!
It's stories like yours which give me hope. I too am trying very hard to raise my three children to see the truth and to have genuine compassion for their fellow human beings. I am already seeing the reward of my efforts, and so are you. Bless you.
