When he came to New Zealand in 1994 he said he is a democrat.

Judging by his songs, hes a democrat. We Shall be free is not something a repug singer would sing.

38. I would call him 'hip-hop' as opposed to 'rap, but that's a blurry line
I don't think he usually has all that gospel in the background, from what I've heard, but I would like to hear more, and I would REALLY like to support him and help contribute to his sales soaring. It's making the news ever since the "Bush doesn't like black people" thing...

Eminem when he did his black hoody thing and I don't think he has half the talent this guy has. If he put this piece together he is not just the usual pop star. Plus, I like his politics and HE WAS RIGHT!

Garth is a living, breathing reminder to all the bigots that surrounded him as he grew up that they suck, and it pisses them off.

I work in the town where Brooks was raised. His name is not often spoken kindly there any more. He's just that "weird" guy.

Got laughed at for that album. Not great, but not a bad album.

One of the things I like about his music is he is good at mixing obvious rock influences into the whole country thing. It's not cookie-cutter Nashville crap.

74. A lot of ppl. misunderstood the purpose of that album.
There was suppose to be a movie that came out with the album about the character Chris Gaines. The movie part of the deal fell through after the CD was already made so it was released because Garth Brooks thought the music was too important not to release. It wasn't like he was crazy or anything. The CD is actually really good. Don't ask me exactly how I know this, but I saw it on some "behind the music" show.

I'm not a huge Garth Brooks fan, but I have always enjoyed his music and for the most part, I hate country. Based on everything I know about him, he's a Dem. I believe Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are as well. They just don't really talk about it because of the backlash you get in the country music world.

Tupelo is in the north of the state, closer to Memphis and the Shiloh battlefield than even Jackson.

20. I suspect they censored the "N" word in the lyrics to Jesus Walks:
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 08:00 PM by Longhorn
We need to recruit all the soldiers
All of God's soldiers
We at war
We at war with society ,with racism, terrosism, and most of all we at war wit ourselves
(Jesus Walks)
God show me the way because the Devil's trying to break me down
(Jesus Walks with me) with me with me with me

You know what the Midwest is?
Young & Restless
Where restless might snatch yo necklace
And next these might jack yo Lexus
Somebody tell these who Kanye West is
I walk through the valley of the shadow of death is
Top floor, the view alone will leave you breathless
Uhhhh!
Try to catch it
Uhhhh!
It's kinda hard
Getting choked by the detectives yeah yeah now check the method
They be asking us questions, harassin', arrest us
Saying "We eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast."
Huh? Ya'll eat pieces of shit? What's the basis?
We ain't going nowhere but got suits and cases
A trunk full of coke, rental car from Avis
My momma used to say only Jesus can save us
Well momma, I know I act a fool
But I'll be gone till November I got packs to move, I Hope

(Jesus Walk)
God show me the way because the Devil's tryna to break me down
(Jesus Walk) with me)
The only thing that I pray is that me feet don't fail me now
(Jesus Walk)
And I don't think there is nothing I can do now ta, right my wrongs
(Jesus Walk with me)
I wanna talk to God but I'm afraid because we ain't spoke in so long

(Jesus Walk)
God show me the way because the Devil's tryna to break me down
(Jesus Walk with me)
The only thing that I pray is that me feet don't fail me now
(Jesus Walk)
And I don't think there is nothing I can do now to right my wrongs
(Jesus Walk)
I want to talk to God but I'm afraid because we ain't spoke in so long.

To the hustlas, killas, murderas, drug dealas even tha strippers jesus walks with them
To the victims of Welfare for we living in hell here, hell yeah, jesus walks with them
Now hear ye hear ye want to see Thee more clearly
I know He hear me when my feet get weary
Cuz we're the almost nearly extinct
We rappers is role models, we rap we don't think
I ain't here to argue about his facial features
Or here to convert atheists into believers
I'm just trying to say the way school need teachers
The way Kathy Lee needed Regis, that's the way I need Jesus
So here go my single dawg radio needs this
They say you can rap-about-anything except for Jesus
That means guns, sex, lies, video tapes
But if I talk about God my record won't get played, Huh?
Well if this take away from my spins
Which will probably take away from my ends
and i hope it take away from my sins
and bring the day that I dream about
Next time I'm in the club everybody screamin out

(Jesus Walks)
God show me the way because the devil's tryna break me down
(Jesus Walks)
The only thing that I pray is that my feet don't fail me now

68. His version of that song was very different tonight
First, they censored 1/3 of his song.

Here is one of the changes that he made that they did not censor:

" Well Momma, I know I act a fool, but a flood came now we've got to move"

~and~

"I can only imagine (pause) I can only imagine if I couldn't talk to my mother, if I didn't know where my mother was, if I didn't know where my family was"

"If I had to, if I had to lose my home, if I had to stay in the Superdome, if I lost where I stayed..."

69. Yes, it was, but there were also some lyrics exactly as written.
I'm just saying if he did sing the first verse or two with the original lyrics, he might have been censored for certain words. There were times when entire passages were silent and times when it was just a word or two.

Believe me, I'm not defending ANY censorship -- just considering all possibilities.

50. DR JOHN ACCUSES OFFICIALS OF 'MURDERING' NEW ORLEANS
Veteran rocker DR JOHN has blamed the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans on the failure of successive US governments to combat the slowly eroding wetlands around the Louisiana city.

The SUCH A NIGHT singer, who grew up in New Orleans, is urging people to donate whatever they can afford to the disaster relief fund.

Dr John - real name MAC REBENNACK - says, "If anybody in the government would've done something about the disappearing wetlands for the past 50 years, then this probably wouldn't have been as bad.

"It makes me think of what my friend Reverend Goat just told me, 'Let me say this before it goes any further, New Orleans didn't die of natural causes, she was murdered.'"

72. We're getting it twice here...
Once in real time at 4:00 p.m. on MSNBC (8:00 EDT), and now again tape delay on the networks.

65. Someone should have done "Tupelo Honey"
You can take all the tea in China
Put it in a big brown bag for me
Sail right around the seven oceans
Drop it straight into the deep blue sea
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
She's an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

You can't stop us on the road to freedom
You can't keep us 'cause our eyes can see
Men with insight, men in granite
Knights in armor bent on chivalry
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
She's an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

She's as sweet as tupelo honey
She's an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like the honey, baby, from the bee
She's my baby, you know she's alright.....

66. And Dylan sing Shelter From The Storm?
I was expecting Dylan to sing the song that they named it after.
