1. I think this kind of protest is GOOD, but...
As someone with personal experience with operations of department of homeland security, and someone who has read up on the FBI a bit, I really do think that the politicians could use their police agencies to exploit the event and cause chaos or disruption of the Left. They could then use that series of events to create rhetoric against the Left and ultimately crush it.

Kind of like what the chinese government did at tienamen, convincing its people that crushing the democracy movement was a good thing because it prevented chaos and kept order.

4. Well, they certainly weren't effective in Crawford
This admin. and their thugs, I mean. They let that protest take center stage for weeks. I, too, thought they learned something from that and then their big opportunity to look like 'heroes' after Katrina came, festered with neglect, and then went right out the door with the public's good opinion of them. They have learned nothing.

5. I am hoping for a short, sharp shock of protests

I'd like Bush out of office quickly.

Caveat: I am an optimist.

12. What does this event have to do with "the left?"
It's supposed to be an encampment of Katrina survivors. Shouldn't matter from which point on the political spectrum they come. If the politicians and police attempt to exploit the event, won't that reflect poorly on them for harrassing folks who have lost their homes in a major national disaster?

NGU.

16. The point is that it will always be construed to the "Left"
You know that CNN and Fox News will say the next day: "Encampment of far left activists like moveon.org and commondreams are exploiting the tragedy of Katrina..."

And meanwhile the FBI and its friends in homeland security and local police agencies will love the opportunity as an excercise of show of force...

3. Way Helpful...
and i hope it goes national...like the Cindy Vigil....i can't tell you how surprised i was at the amount of people who turned out in my little town. This is going to get very big...and if people have no way to express their anger...it's going to come out in other ways.

8. We do our best

We have heard a few arguments against Bushville on various threads on DU.

Young activists seem really timid on DU. In some of the threads they've worried about permits and legality.

11. I am the "wet blanket" that voted harmful.
I am paranoid, and fully believe that if things got out of hand, they'd yell insurgency, and it would not be pretty.
