The federal government is trying to purchase an additional 50,000 body bags for use in the Hurricane Katrina cleanup and in Iraq, according to an official for a Modesto manufacturer.

Previously, the Federal Emergency Management Administration purchased 25,000 body bags and shipped them to New Orleans.

"We recently delivered every bag we had in stock, which is about 400," said John Hassapakis, manager of Central Valley Professional Services in Modesto. "Those were sent directly to New Orleans."

This week the government put out a bid for 50,000 more bags, he said.

Decreasing actually means increasing.

Up is down. Black is white. Hot is cold.

Katrina Death Toll May Not Hit 10,000 By ERIN McCLAM, AP National Writer
1 hour, 9 minutes ago

NEW ORLEANS - Alarming predictions of as many as 10,000 dead in New Orleans may have been greatly exaggerated, with authorities saying Friday that the first street-by-street sweep of the swamped city revealed far fewer corpses than feared.

"Some of the catastrophic deaths that some people predicted may not have occurred," said Col. Terry Ebbert, the city's homeland security chief.

39. Why confused? It's easy: Anyone who says that toll will
be less than 10,000 is lying. The morticians were told to expect 40,000 dead and now we see that they are buying an additional 50,000 body bags. There were 96,000 missing people listed on the Red Cross site days ago -- the death toll will be staggering the * administration will do everything in their power to LIE about it.

12. I hope that the CNN (& all media) victory
for access to information will keep them honest about the casualties. When the announcements of "less than feared" surfaced on all the outlets simultaneously, I wondered about the earlier reports from Tennessee mortuaries being prepped for up to 40k bodies...

The "people" in this administration find "Chaos" (real or merely apparent) useful for generating fear for ease of exploitation...like how a dictator or preacher might use the notion.

And these "people" got their start with the sabotage of democracy in Election 2004...like how Stalin might have done.

19. These numbers dovetail with this report from a pathologist on site:
DeJong, medical director of forensic pathology at Lansing's Sparrow Hospital, is working with other professionals to identify some of the thousands of people who died during or after the hurricane.

The federal team's effort will last weeks if not months, she said by cell phone Thursday.

"I do this job day in, day out, but seeing this volume ... we have young people who have died here ... children who have died," said DeJong, a veteran of seven disasters. "Seeing this at this volume ... it does affect you."

DeJong is expected to return to the Lansing area next week. But she may be asked to come back because of the enormous task ahead, she said.

--snip

DeJong can't comment on the number of victims she has identified, but said it's been "disturbing."

27. Sure they are
and if they had any smarts at all, they would bury those that they could without bags, without coffins in mass unmarked graves. I'm amazed that they would be so stupid as to put out such an order.

These bastards are evil but if they really did this, they are really, really stupid too.

33. That's where they're going to hide the "more than 10,000"
By incineration or mass graves. :(

The actual number is going to be hideous - there are still more than a thousand missing children from the region and they think the "third of NO police" who "ran and hid" are, in fact, dead. They were told to stay near home in case they were needed. So much for lack of local planning.

These poor people are not only going to be murdered by inadvertence in droves, they're going to fall into a black hole in history.

41. I heard that too. Something about what to do with bodies that
were never claimed. If entire families, or some who have no living relatives are lost, they talked about mass graves to be used. I don't want to sound calous, but I can't really think of another answer.

40. I had not thought of that -
Charmaine Neville said in her interview that they had to step over/past 100's of bodies to get out of their neighborhood - that is just one neighborhood.

What I don't get:

HOW CAN US CITIZENS PARTICIPATE IN THIS COVER-UP?!?! How can the 1,000's of National Guard, Police, and Emergency Workers follow orders to pile bodies into houses and light the houses on fire? (If that is what they are doing). How can they point guns at journalists who are taking pictures or holding nothing more than notebooks?
