Why not get donations and buy a house or two for the victims?

nice idea
the hard part wouldn't be raising the money but actually buying the house, deciding who to buy it for, and getting everyone pissed off because you didn't buy it for someone else.

Without an infrastructure people would be suspicious about just turning over money to a cause like this. Andy's surgery was a very clearly defined goal.

3. i agree!! and would gladly donate!!
was part of sending the biggest 18 wheeler there is from my little home town down to biloxi ( merhs town) day before yesterday from my little town...and we got so much we had to send 2 additional trucks with the semi!!..it went with a cop and a teacher and a construction guy, a painter..and appliance store owner...

they would not take any women./.or i wou;d have been on one of those trucks!!

count me in if you do a fund raiser here!!

i sing well!!

4. Because someone would get overlooked
We probably can never ever get every DUer affected by Katrina which means some might receive more than others or someone will get overlooked
