Bask in the glory of my superior unFreeping skills.
From an e-mail I got today:

---------------
what a joke it is blaming the failed response on the Federal Government. Anyone who understands Federalism knows we are a Republic of States who govern themselves. The Feds come in to pick up the pieces when called upon. They should have been called upon if the Mayor and the Governor couldn't handle their own business. It wasn't till W came to town and called in the military that shit started to get accomplished.
---------------

Of course, some "Reply To All" ownage ensued:

---------------

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/08/20050827-1.html

Katrina was declared a FEDERAL emergency in Louisiana
on August 26 (two full days before landfall). At that
point, it became FEMA's responsibility to "coordinate
all disaster relief efforts which have the purpose of
alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the
emergency on the local population, and to provide
appropriate assistance for required emergency
measures, authorized under Title V of the Stafford
Act, to save lives, protect property and public health
and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a
catastrophe."

In that time, FEMA did nothing. Part of the reason
behind that is because your hero Dubya appointed an
Arabian horse judge with exactly zero emergency
management experience as the director of the FEDERAL
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY.

But Bush did come roll up his sleeves and hug black
people, so I guess that counts for something. I
particularly liked that photo op where he stood in
front of the two helicopters...I wondered how many
people were standing on their roofs waiting for
helicopters to rescue them while Bush stood in front
of the cameras telling the world what a great job he
was doing in his unique fake-redneck/borderline-retard
dialect.

Thanks for playing, we have some lovely consolation
prizes for you. At this point, blindly supporting
George W. Bush is a severe character flaw.

Rant over.

Long rants tend loose steam and the RW knuckle draggers have a hard time following all the multi sylable words. Yours was short and to the point. After burning down some right wing e-mail myself I hardly ever get a retort. The freepers hate arguing against the truth and would rather live in an echo chamber of disinformation and fear.

I don't recall a disaster in the United States getting this out of hand before ever. Even in 1906 in the SF earthquake the feds had supplies there in two days. that was 100 YEARS AGO! It's so obvious that Bush is a failure.

-quote-
sorry you were so disturbed, all character flaws aside, how do you explain the fact that a few thousand school buses were never utilized-as you say-2 full days before the cane came thru, by the Mayor, and the Governor never used the State National Guard at her disposal. But you speak like a typical lib who believes the Feds should run the country instead of the foundational principle of States rights. The Feds are used as back up (ask Jeb Bush) and FEMA is the prime example of why Big Government programs generally waste your hard earned tax dollars. Bureaucracy and red tape!
Blindly supporting W is not my objective, just as blindly attacking I don't believe to be your purpose. Have a drink my friend, whoever you are. And lastly, learn to debate without attack, you and your party might once again attain power, but until you learn to debate with objectivity, we'll keep winning elections. All character flaws aside.............

Ah, I see...both Bush AND Jeb are national heroes.

27. ...and my retort.

What a quaint concept, a federal government running a country. You may be on to something there!

I think that if the president is going to declare a FEDERAL emergency two days before a massive natural disaster, it is probably a good idea to follow through and maybe do something. Because if you bothered to read the White House link I provided, you would have seen that according to the Homeland Security guidelines the Bush administration created, the declaration of a federal emergency AUTOMATICALLY makes the disaster the responsibility of the federal government. If you have a problem with those guidelines, please take it up with the people who wrote them.

Also, as for the state government "handling their own business"...I'm sure Governor Blanco would have loved to have had about 3,000 Louisiana National Guardsmen to assist with the evacuation efforts. Unfortunately, those people (who signed up to protect Louisiana) are in Iraq right now running THEIR country instead of letting them exercise their own "states' rights."

And coordinating disaster relief efforts (which is the precise reason why FEMA even exists) is a minimal "waste of taxpayer dollars" compared to the approximately $193 billion we've dumped into Iraq to find WMD...er, hunt down al Qaeda...er, liberate the Iraqi people. But at least we have the low gasoline prices to show for it!

By the way, I don't have to be objective when you're wrong.

32. "learn to debate with objectivity"
Subjective interpretations of "States rights" and "Big Government" make your pen pal blind to reality.

FEMA has clearly neglected its responsibilities UNDER THE LAW. The law gives them the authority to cut through red tape in a catastrophe. Instead they used "red tape" as a cover for their own inaction and incompetency.

Only the federal government has the expertise and resources to respond to major catastrophes. That is why state governments are willing to cede certain powers in extreme circumstances. The federal government did not execute its responsibilities so it is right and proper to hold the people running it responsible.

well OK, I guess if you say I'm wrong, I must be wrong, so I won't waste much time trying to tell you why I think you're a little off. Who cares about reasonable debate when you can attack, attack, attack. Hasn't that become the mantra of your party's platform?
Your cookie cutter talking points (directly from the likes of Michael Moore and/or Moveon.org) are so stale it doesn't even pay to reply. But sometimes I work pro-bono, for fun. I guess that's the beauty of democracy and the reason we hold elections.
Scoreboard

We agree on FEMA's incompetence, I think they should have been more prepared, but we part ways when you think the Feds should be responsible for everything and trump the local and state governments in every case of emergency. Nobody knows FL better then the mayors and the Governor, nobody knows LA/MS/AL better than the mayors and the Governors, thus, Homeland Security should be about support of local initiatives and stepping in when called upon, in dire circumstances, such as this. The declaration of the Emergency 2 days in advance gave the local and state governments ample time to carry out their plans for evacuation, and provided every resource of the Federal Government to assist. What was done? 30k people were put in the Superdome rather than shipped out to a safer area. Great idea huh? And this from the people who are supposed to know the area and the people better than anyone. Maybe you're right, maybe Bush just doesn't care about black people, if Kanye West says it, it's gotta be true right? Chris Rock now says that Bush doesn't care about midgets (neither does Bailey but all kidding aside), is there going to be a rally somewhere for this too?

Since you'd prefer to link Katrina to "Bush lied kids died":
if you had your way there wouldn't be 2 blossoming democracies on each side of Iran (talk about applying pressure!), with a peace movement sprouting in an area of the world nobody ever believed would be possible. (I know it's hard for you to believe that progress is being made, evidenced by your lib media talking points). Sure we have problems, who said it would be easy? Who asked for this war? Who will fight the enemy and call evil and terror by name? What country has the ability to spread world peace and lift up societies that can't lift themselves? I hope it's our country bro, cause nobody else will, surely not the UN.

And lastly, you have got to be kidding with that oil argument. Take an economics course, read a book, take a picture, I don't give a $$$$, but let's start talking like we have some sense huh? Ever heard of China? India? understand supply/demand? What we've needed for the past 30 yrs is an energy policy to build more refineries here, and we need to start tapping more of our domestic resources (see ANWR) instead of relying on the Saudis et al. Even if we got more oil from them, we couldn't bring it to the pump. First step, pass an energy bill to do exactly that, reduce our dependence over time while simultaneously and intermediately increasing our refining capacity.

Thanks for comin out! See ya next time,

-end quote-

My response to that:

Why haven't you enlisted yet?
