99. Just when I thought there was nothing new to me on the 'Net
...I find that I have no clue as to how to access these files.

I've pulled up the newsgroup in question...and found a file ending in .r03 -- I haven't a clue, or does my PC, as to what to do with it.

Help?

102. It's a rar archive.
Kinda like a zipped file, but a different format. You need a rar utility; WinRar is probably the most commonly used.

Also, the .r03 means that there are probably at least four other files that you need to download, ending in .rar .r00 .r01 and .r02

Depending on the size of these files, you may need additional files with subsequent numbers (i.e. .r04 et al) to get the entire original file.

86. That's what bugs me about Carlin
He has a lot of very strong progressive beliefs, but he doesn't vote. I noticed that Carlin got very quiet when Bill Maher said that those that didn't vote for Kerry in 2004 are responsible for the end of Roe v. Wade.

72. He's James K. Glassman -- see his bio on "wikipedia" and also...
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 11:54 PM by Radio_Lady
Here's the wiki bio on Tech Central Station -- look at the big named corporations!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tech_Central_Station

Tech Central Station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Tech Central Station (TCS) describes itself as a website "where free markets meet technology". TCS publishes daily original commentary, news and analysis, focused on economics, business, foreign affairs, technology, science, environment, trade, and culture. It is hosted by James K. Glassman, a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and syndicated columnist for Scripps Howard News Service. He also writes a monthly financial column for Kiplinger's Personal Finance.

TCS is published by DCI Group, a public and government affairs firm. TCS is primarily funded by sponsors that include AT&T, The Coca-Cola Company, ExxonMobil, General Motors Corporation, McDonalds, Merck, Microsoft, Nasdaq, and PhRMA.

Tech Central Station (TCS) publishes a wide array of articles by authors who agree with the TCS worldview. The majority of articles published on TCS are about current events, politics, economy and foreign affairs. TCS has also recently published several articles about the debate over intelligent design and the site also has significant coverage of the War on Terror.

Some articles published on TCS also discuss issues that are of interest to TCS sponsors. For example, on climate change TCS has published articles by a number of skeptics such as Willie Soon, Sallie Baliunas, Patrick Michaels and Fred Singer. They've published several articles that are skeptical of open source. When a pro-open source piece was published by libertarian author Julian Sanchez, a rebuttal by James DeLong was also published.

on "Shining Time Station"--I don't think it's on PBS any more, but it was the show with the Thomas the Tank Engine videos.

He did his job and he did it well -- there wasn't any "I'm George Carlin and I'm on a kids' show, isn't that hilarious." He was good and I respected him a lot for getting into the role and not condescending to the kids.

Also, I LIKED HIM SO MUCH on Bill Maher. Dang, that was good.

60. Good for Cynthia Tucker
Did not know that the Atlanta Constitution is such a progressive paper..

"You cannot separate Race and Class."

Talked to moderate Republican women before the 2000 elections: oh no, they said, Bush is a moderate, will never hurt Roe v. Wade. We lost it, she said, in the 2000 elections.

Still, we may have an intellectual (Roberts) who will respect previous decisions (like Roe v. Wade) but the next appointment may be a lot more to the right. Roberts is probably the best that we can do now.

And, how typical of the conservative (he called himself libertarian) guy to say that, hey, Roe v. Wade "only" makes the Federal law supersede State ones. But, clearly, California and New York won't repeal it.

"I was born before 1973," she replied. "I grew up in Alabama..."

Just like those election board heads in Ohio were "Democrats."

If Republican henchpeople say they are of a different party, then they have a thin veneer of being "nonpartisan."

Remember they don't seem to really care about the truth. They are too busy creating reality, after all.

97. Thanks for this information...
I saw him within about 2-months after 9/11 and it was one of the most miserable experiences of my life. I was SO excited to see him, based on his HBO specials (and decades of thinkings he was a funny guy). In the performance after 9/11 he was mean-spirited as all get-out, when he usually is sharp-witted and compassionate. Maybe he was worn down at the time from drugs/drinking - whatever caused him to need to go into rehab.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/books/12/27/george.carlin/

He pretty much made it seem as if it was a small problem he wanted to stop before it became a big problem like he has had in the past.

Carlin has taken on a nastier edge ever since his wife died back in 97. I think she kept his misanthropic side in check.

Of course, being severely misanthropic myself, I tend to love it even more. :-)

I love most of Maher's shows, but tonight's show had to be one of the most convincing ever. An absoulute knock-out.

58. Best Real Time in a long time
Bill's closing monologue appealing to Bush to resign was priceless. I loved the part when Bill enumerated everything we've lost under Bush: 4 airplanes, 2 World Trade Center buildings, part of the Pentagon, and now a whole city, and then suggested that America would be better off if Bush was on the other team.

There are many more cancer survivors than used to be. Diagnosis of cancer is no longer a death warrant, the way some of us may remember. For many cancer is now a chronic disease that can be managed with medicine... but I suppose he is not too quick on his feet.

He wouldn't let anyone finish a phrase, much less a sentence before he started shouting over them, except sometimes, Bill Maher. He had at least enough deference to know just WHOSE show it was.

I started yelling STFU at him, sitting along in my living room. So you know I was pissed.

93. When you hear a comic use the phrase "Stare Decisis" AND
he knows what it means and who supports it and who doesn't, and he clearly demonstrates that, then you know what you're really dealing with: a truly brilliant and incisive mind.

Plus, the man's business is Words and Language. He was right there to call Bullshit everytime that bloviating fucker tripped on the language.

You had to love it -- I just wish Carlin could have gotten more comments in...but that bastard just talked over Everyone!

90. Wait a minute! Nobody mentioned Kurt Vonnegut???
It was a great show, aside from the American Enterprise wingnut talking over everyone. Bill's rant was great. Carlin was in great form, though did anyone else notice something odd about him. He was very shaky and figity.

But Vonnegut, a great author, was on toward the end. And I gotta say, he looked and sounded great. And still as witty as ever. I may have to go out and get his new book, "A Man without a Country", a collection of previously released essays, many of them bashing Bush.

111. And Scarborough (sp?) was good... for a Republican
As a host himself, he was very careful, well paced in what he said and how he reacted, but did mention how FEMA worked wonder last year in Florida. He tried to give credit to Jeb Bush but still, it was clear that FEMA was there before the first rain dropped appeared on the horizon.

At some point he mentioned that there were more (confirmed) dead in Mississippi than in New Orleands. Maher cut him off but this realy says something about Bush cheerleader Barbour.
