that the $2,000.00 per family debit card program has been scrapped for the Katrina victims. Has anyone else heard anymore on this?

2. Yes, they want to go back to direct deposit or paper checks
that way they can earn a little interest on the money before they send it to them. :sarcasm:

7. Right - that way, first thing Monday they can make a withdrawl
if they can find their banks - assuming they have an account.

4. We can't afford to give them $2,000?
Is it just me or are all the 9/11 families now millionares? Wonder why the gap is so big?

8. Many waited in line only to get Red Cross cards worth a few
hundred - and then were told no FEMA cards were "deployed" - (the first clue).

Welcome to DU BTW.

13. Somewhere today
I heard that they stopped the program because non-victims were showing up to collect the cards.

Guess cheating is not allowed! Perhaps they should just ship some of those pallets of $100 dollar bills that they shipped to Iraq to the Astrodome? There has been NO accounting for that vast cubic footage of currency sent to Iraq.
