Colin Powells "blot" on his record |
|
So Colin spoke this evening about his speech to the UN which lead to the war against a country that posed NO THREAT to the United States, and he even admitted to Barbara Walters that Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11.... said it was a "blot" on his record.
However, he said it with NO EMOTION WHATSOEVER, as if discussing a traffic violation. I thought Mrs Powell had more regret than he did.
What a jerk!

I'm just astonished at his lack of emotion. Thousands have died and countless thousands more wounded and he was so matter of fact.
Bet he hasnt lost a moments sleep over his lies either.

4. A blot on his record, a tombstone on my neighbor's grandson.... |
|
My neighbor's grandson was killed in Iraq. How dare that son of a bitch Powell feel sad for the blot on his record when he lied and signed a death sentence to a nice 22 year old kid. You are still alive, you piece of shit. This 22 year old kid will never see the light of day ever, and his grandparents will never see his face again.

8. Colin Powell has disgraced himself. At least Dick Morris only sucked toes |
|
He was able to crawl back into the public eye and restore a tiny bit of his former status.
Colin signed off on a lie. He knew it was a lie that would cause death and destruction. He rolled the dice, hoping things would go well in Iraq and that he would come out smelling like a rose.
Colin will have to crawl away into oblivion when the full truth is revealed.

9. I've been curious about this since I first heard it |
|
Hasn't he just publicly confessed to a crime? Can he be prosecuted? I haven't seen the full text of the interview, so maybe he worded it in such a way that he wasn't responsible for the blot, but it sure sounds like he's saying he was lying and knew it.

Anyone who thinks Powell was simply misled by the current administration, do a little googling and you'll see his entire career has been one of complicity and coverup stretching all the way back to My Lai.
He never pursued politics because his wife didn't want him to. She didn't want him to get shot. Okay, the second part of that statement is speculation but the first part is true. I remember his statements during past primary seasons.
Said it before, say it again: He is merely trying to rehabilitate himself for the lecture circuit, having been denied the brass ring of Carlyle Group membership that is awarded to well-behaved criminals.

He is a bad person, and has been part of the threat to democracy for decades. But he was packaged in such a way that many people believed he was somehow "good." His presentation to the UN was not a small error on an otherwise honorable career. It was simply one more terrible action by one of the villians of the century.
I think that a number of democrats who say, "I respected him until ...." buy into that myth, but that many others feel particularly betrayed because he knew better. With a Rumsfeld or Cheney, you can say they are snakes, merely behaving according to the snakey rules of their nature. But with Powell, I have no doubt he knows better. For that reason, his violent and evil side seems a different type of betrayal.
