Do we, or do we Not DESERVE a president like george bush?
you get the leaders that you deserve. is that true? do we deserve a totally unqualified man in the highest most important office in the land? maybe we do. and maybe we deserve better.

in fact, maybe we deserve the best qualified man for such a position, because if you can put bush jr. in the most important office in the land, then what good is the office of president anyway?

we've proven, once and for all, that we DON'T NEED a president to run america. any fool off the street could do exactly the same job, probably better, so why even have a president? seriously.

1. I can only agree with the sentiment of not needing that position
IMO, the president should be the model citizen, and the top diplomat - nothing more. I think it's an outdated position, and we should start realizing again that time proves there are some mistakes in our constitution (you know, like the fact the people have no power in removing federal officials), and that's why we can amend it in the first place.

16. The time has come that we have outlived the need for
King, Queen, Prime Minister and Presidents.

2. The president is a figurehead like the Queen of England...
and we can't even elect one who can speak the English language. The only reason we have the office of president is for all the pomp and circumstance and flying around on Air Force 1 trying to look important.

5. The power is in the policy makers behind the scenes and the...
president is just their spokesperson. This president can barely put two words together and get them right so I don't think he is making any economic or other policies. Big business is behind whatever policies are made.

6. Missy M, Clinton did a lot of good despite the right-wing-freak- show's...
... efforts to bring him down. Clinton = competence, Bush = incompetence.

"It's the competence stupid!"

7. Clinton had a democratic congress until 1995 and despite what..
you may think Clinton and his policies were decided by big business. The difference between Clinton as a figurehead and bush as a figurehead is Clinton was articulate and charming and bush is a bumbling fool. Many times Clinton was as republican as the republicans.

8. We've Got What We've Got
because some time around about ten to fifteen years ago there was a dumbing down of a sector of the American public. Radical fundamentalism, television and advertising played a role in this metamorphosis into stupidity--and yes, I hate to say this, but Americans on the whole are a pretty stupid lot in comparison to people from other countries. They are uninformed, unread and lacking in anything that resembles critical thinking.

What troubles me is how the people (like so many of the DUers I've encountered here) who are the intelligent and thoughtful ones, have essentially been bulldozed by the ignorant right wing types to the point where we actually have them running not only this country but making havoc around the world? What have those who are clearly thoughtful, intelligent and rational done or not done to have this happen?

10. We get the leaders we deserve. Yes, we deserve him.
Hell, we voted for him (as a society, not necessarily individually).

If our population is this deficient in its decision-making abilities, yes, we deserve what we get.

We weren't fooled. We deserve better. But we have to suffer along with the idiots who love Bush, & it really pisses me off.

15. There are lots of Americans who DON'T deserve Bush....
The coast guard rescuers dangling from helicopters pulling people off their roofs to safety.....the doctors and nurses who stayed with their patients in that big NO public hospital for days and days....all the volunteers who mobilized and got to the Gulf only to be stopped ...all the people who've opened their homes to evacuees....all the families from NO set adrift who hang on to each other and refuse to give up.... every American who is doing whatever he can to stop this suffering and speak truth to power....well...you get the idea.
I'm proud of them...and I'm filled with shame that Bush and his cronies and thugs pretend to lead us.
