NWS: I thought I was showning wry Germanic wit ... |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 05:37 AM by panzerfaust
When I commented on one of BlueBear’s posts (which I can’t seem to find now) something to the effect that “the NWS ‘only’ forecast that the levees might be overtopped - vs breaking. So NWS clearly failed, and that, had DH Santorum’s call to privatize national weather forecasting been heeded, then Great Leader could have saved The People - or at least one of Trent Lott’s houses.”
Shockingly I now read that “…National Weather Service's forecasts and warnings about Katrina's path were ‘not sufficient … we need a robust National Weather Service’ that focuses on severe weather predictions. ‘Obviously the consequences are incredibly severe … if we don't get it right and don't properly prepare,’ Santorum said.” Fifth Paragraph Down
No matter how low the bar is set, conservatives will slither under it.

that a joke that seemed silly on its face became Santorum's reality. Does that help?

Had planned to attach it as a reply to an original post about the NWS forecast – in which case the context would have been clear. But, could not find the original post.
Here is a recap.
Earlier this year DH Santorum called for weather forecasting to be taken over by private companies - one of which, by happenstance, was in his state.
Prior to Kat hitting the coast, the NWS issued a forecast saying that the NOLA levees might be overtopped with subsequent severe flooding of NOLA.
Kat, instead, breached the levees and flooded NOLA.
OurGreatLeader said “I don't think anyone anticipated the breach of the levees.”
My post implied that a PRIVATE company would have used the phrase “breach of the levees”, instead of “overtopped” and thus OGL would have known what was going to happen and could have saved the city. That, if only, we had listened to Santorum, NOLA would not have happened.
I intended this as far-fetched irony.
Then, days later, I ran across the article linked to where Santorum, incredibly, essentially makes that very claim …
I was truly shocked – though, upon reflection, I don’t know why I should have been.
