US prez gets licence to arrest Americans

Posted online: Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 1224 hours IST

Washington, September 10: A US Federal Appeals Court upheld President George W Bush's authority to detain American citizens without charges as enemy combatants in the "war on terror", reversing a lower court's ruling.

In a unanimous decision, the three judge panel yesterday threw out the lower court's finding that Bush's order to detain Jose Padilla, a US citizen, without charges as an enemy combatant was unconstitutional.

"We conclude that the President does possess such authority pursuant to the authorisation for use of military force joint resolution enacted by Congress in the wake of the attacks on the United States of September 11, 2001," the US Appeals Court for the fourth circuit ruled.

1. Anniversary Of A Successful Attack
Ossama, with a relative handful of followers, was successful in attacking the USA and Bush, with the most powerful military force the earth has ever seen, has been unsuccessful at retribution for the attack. I know of no simpler way to say it.
