"A vote for ANY Republican is a vote for another Katrina"
There's our Mantra. When asked to explain it's simple. Republicans control it all and it was REpublican control that allowed an incompetent political hack to hold the key position for emergency response.

With that level of incompetence from the Republicans, you KNOW thaat other areas have suffered, especially National Security.

3. Bush declared it a disaster area.. If the military had been sent
early on, Bush would have been doing his job. Instead he thought it more important to stay on vacation and go to fund raisers and baseball games!

5. Aug 27 Blanco asks Bush to declare state of emergency for LA and
requests Fed assistance:

"Pursuant to 44 CFR § 206.35, I have determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and affected local governments, and that supplementary Federal assistance is necessary to save lives, protect property, public health, and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a disaster. I am specifically requesting emergency protective measures, direct Federal Assistance, Individual and Household Program (IHP) assistance, Special Needs Program assistance, and debris removal."

Full text here: http://www.gov.state.la.us/Press_Release_detail.asp?id=976

And btw, the use of active duty troops in assisting states deal with natural disasters has been an accepted practice. That was covered when the state requested the Pres to declare a state of emergency and when the Pres declared a state of emergency for LA on Aug 27. Claims to the contrary are Bushco bullshit.

9. You got that one right, Skittles..
proudmarie was repeating Flush Limpballs talking points on another thread...basically saying that Blanco was withholding food.water.assistance to the folk in NO Superdome, convention center in order to "force" (starve) them out.

PM still hasn't answered the question of why, when Bush declared the state of emergency, he didn't include Orleans or Jefferson parish in the declaration---the most vulnerable areas---I hope a reporter picks up on this and asks Scottie McLellan about this? Why, George, why would you not include Orleans parish---where the poor, black people live?

4. I've been saying for years
that any vote for any republican at any time is a vote for their national agenda. Katrina does not make this situation different, only more accute.

I wouldn't vote for a republican EVER, even if they were the only person on the ballot, even if I knew and liked them personally, even if I were closely related to them, even if they seemed sincere in their desire to be a public servant for what they saw as the betterment of their constituants as a whole. The very fact that they could identify with the republican party would mean that they are either stupid or supportive of the evils the national party aparatus has visited upon this nation since, at least, 1980. I don't vote for anyone I think is stupid or evil.

To hell with republicans. Katrina is just the latest and most wrenching horror they have given us.

10. That's the best line I've heard in a while
Lakoff would be proud. Also:

Vote for any republican is a vote for another Iraq works

Vote for any republican is a vote for another Love Canal

A vote for any republican is a vote for another Schiavo

A vote for any republican is a vote for another Abu Ghraib

A vote for any repubican is a vote for another 9/11

These are much more true that the Cheney crap where he essentially said a vote for Kerry is leaving the country exposed.

Dem leaders still don't get it or don't want to get it.
