Owning the Weather - Science Channel
Will be on today at 2:00pm. I have not seen it but another group that I belong to said that it was very interesting. Talks about all the experiments being done to control weather, steering hurricanes, cloud seeding. Just thought some might be interested in seeing it.

Owning the Weather
Owning the Weather

1. As if we haven't fucked the world up enough already!!
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 07:29 AM by theHandpuppet
I find this whole prospect terrifying, to be honest. Would any of you really trust control of the world's weather to "the private sector" or the military? Ye Gods, what a nightmare!!!! We don't even fully understand the dynamics of the global climate systems and now our aim is to control the weather? And we trust the folks involved with these programs not to use such knowledge as a weapon, or through sheer ignorance totally fuck up this planet while they're playing around?

2. Maybe if they work to reverse some of that global warming...
the weather will naturally drop to normal, and more manageable, levels without human interference. How do they know what the effects of weather control will be? Jesus, I hope they find a way to colonize Mars and the Moon really quick because they're going to fuck this planet up royally.

3. Sounds like it would be an interesting program. But I shudder to think
of the private sector having that technology. Especially Bush loyalists.

4. "In other news...
...the fiftieth consecutive day of snowstorms along the Pacic Coast. And many wonder when the tornadoes will leave New York and Boston."

7. That, definately, and I was thinking something along the lines of
States being forced to pay private companies for rain.

"You want this drought to end, Governor? We can get your some rain. But it won't be cheap. You know, supply and demand"

5. That is both arrogant and dangerous.
Firstly, I really don't believe it can be done. What man can do is usually insignificant compared to the raw power of nature.

Second, I can't imagine the negative consequences this might have.

9. Oh boy! Some things are better left alone!
Interfering in anyway with the natural course of weather events will end up as a 'global catastrophe'!

I have been a weather observer for the NWS for over 25 years and have spent longer than that studying the elements. Without storms and weather events, we couldn't live here. It's part of the earth's life cycles and maintains life.

I don't see how anyone could do this without ending life as we know it.
Yes, some things are better left alone and this is certainly one of them.

Hmmm... maybe this plan would be used as a way for global population control by governments... it's something to think about.

6. Look up Kay Hutchison's (R-TX) Weather Modification Bill.
It's S 517 and was introduced in March of this year. Its purpose is To establish the Weather Modification Operations and Research Board, and for other purposes.

The term ``weather modification'' means changing or controlling, or attempting to change or control, by artificial methods the natural development of atmospheric cloud forms or precipitation forms which occur in the troposphere.

That bit about atmospheric cloud forms is the authorization for the Chemtrail program, IMO. That operation has simply gotten too big to hide anymore, even out in the open.

Also note that there is no seat on the proposed board for a member of The National Weather Service. Couple S 517 with Santorum's ongoing effort to gut the NWS and see where it takes you.

Read the full text of S 517 here.

Remember New Orleans.

8. Sounds fascinating, but I trust "private sector companies" and
the Pentagon about as far as I can throw them. If the private sector sees an opportunity for profit here, and they succeed, that means a royal screwing for the public at large. There are so many potential abuses that it makes my head spin.

What two groups of people are least willing to look ahead and consider the consequences their actions will have? I think that in Bush's America, it's our own government, and the corporations that own our government, that are the most likely to screw the rest of us for the sake of short-term profits.

10. meteorologist claims Katrina man-made
I just posted this in another thread, but maybe it should go here instead. And the same ass-covering note: I'm not necessarily endorsing this (and I think the Yakuza speculation is outlandish). Just FYI.

Idaho meteorologist....Scott Stevens says after looking at NASA satellite photos of the hurricane, he’s is convinced it was caused by electromagnetic generators from ground-based microwave transmitters.

The generators emit a soundwave between three and 30 megahertz and Stevens claims the Russians invented the storm-creating technology back in 1976 and sold it to others in the late 1980s.

Stevens says the clouds formed by the generators are different than normal clouds and are able to appear out of nowhere and says Katrina had many rotation points that are unusual for hurricanes.

At least ten nations and organizations possess the technology but Stevens suspects the Japanese Yakuza created Katrina in order to make a fortune in the futures market and to get even with the U.S. for the 1945 bombing of Hiroshima.
