One of the best Katrina references: SNOPES
http://www.snopes.com/politics/katrina/katrina.asp#nagin

Most importantly, it DEBUNKS the crap the right has been spewing about Nagin and Blanco. They were hardly perfect and they probably made mistakes, but the responsibility and the blame can be put firmly on the federal government, and therefore on Bush.

5. Here is an easy way to contact your Senators/Reps about Brown.

easy way to contact your Senators about this.

HE'S BEEN REMOVED FROM THE SCENE OF THE CRIME, BUT WHY IS MICHAEL BROWN STILL DIRECTOR OF FEMA?

Lowering the integrity standard yet again, President Bush declared today that anybody executed for treason would no longer work in his administration. No, he didn't actually say that . . . but seriously now, how incompetent and inept does one have to be to lose his job as a crony of this president? Consider Michael Brown, whose criminal inaction turned a survivable hurricane into a category 5 catastrophe for the entire Gulf Coast. And now we learn that the ONLY previous emergency management experience on Brown's resume was faked! We all know that Bush is not interested in playing the indictment game, so isn't it time that we finally demand some accountability? Demand that Bush FIRE Michael Brown immediately.

http://www.usalone.net/fema.htm

The president did actually say that "Brownie," his pet name for the FEMA director, was doing "a heck of job" in the aftermath of the storm. Of course he also said that nobody could have anticipated that the levees would break. Although dire warnings from every quarter had predicted exactly that looming danger (see National Geographic, Oct. 2004, for example), Bush axed their repair and maintenance budgets. And he put in charge of the agency that would respond to a major terrorist attack a man with no experience and no credentials except as a frat boy bootlicker. Tell your members of Congress that Brown must go NOW, before the next disaster in the making cripples the rest of our economy.

http://www.usalone.net/fema.htm

You can use the one-click action page above to instantly transmit your personal message to all your members of Congress, and, at the same time, send a Letter to the Editor of your nearest daily newspaper. There is more information on the site about the Roberts nomination, and please check out also -- http://www.OpEdNews.com, the best source of real news and opinion on the web. Write your senators and representative now and tell them to take some personal responsibility for stopping the crony corruption of George Bush.

11. Snopes has a subtle RW bias.

They still haven't corrected their Condi shoes article, which basically says that Condi had next to no role to play in Katrina efforts.

The way snopes biases itself is more evident when you look at the article selection, rather than the content.

13. I think people who say snopes is biased
want or expect it to push their personal agenda all the time, and it doesn't.

Snopes is devoted to debunking useful myths, and learning and publishing the truth vs. the legend about EVERYTHING, whether it fits what people want to believe or not. It doesn't matter whether the misinformation is being spread by the right or the left. For this reason, I'm sure they get blasted by both sides as being too supportive of the other.

14. No, they definitely are biased.
Take some time to read some of their articles critically. I mean, if you value skepticism, you should at least be skeptical about their claim to be purely skeptics.

They don't always come out on the right or left side, but they do bias things ever so slightly in the articles. The higher level of bias is when they post articles and which of the thousands of rumors out there they choose to post about.

If a RW talking point is out and about they will immediately confirm it if they believe it is true. If the talking point is false, however, they will let it stay out there for a while before debunking it later. If they want to debunk a LW talking point, they are on it like a fly to dung, immediately. And if a RW talking point needs promotion and is of undetermined "truth value" they will post it even if it hasn't yet been widely circulated.
