What is the latest word on them shooting stray animals?
Thank you. That was an Anderson Cooper question from earlier.

1. Now that CNN can go in, perhaps Anderson can answer that.
I urge everybody to please donate to their favorite pet rescue charity. I chose Noah's Wish. There is also the ASPCA, the Humane Society, and many more. The animals (and their owners) are the forgotten victims.

3. I really, really hate to say this

because I am an animal lover and I would NEVER leave my baby to fend for herself, but I think it is justified to shot aggressive animals. Social animals should NOT be shot unless they are beyond help and suffering. It is very easy to tell whether a dog is aggressive or social.

There's no use in trying to rescue a dog that wants to take your head off, when there are so many other important things to deal with, and so many social pets to rescue. Cats are a different story - it sure takes an experienced and understanding cat handler to rescue cats. Cats can be little spitfires when they're frightened.

Edit: stupid typo.

4. They're not just shooting "dangerous animals"!
They're shooting animals "deemed" "dangerous" or "too big".

This means any animal that shows any signs of fear can be shot. Any animal can be shot if it's bigger than a teacup.

Quit making excuses for this heartless crime and read about it here http://www.oxfordpress.com/news/content/shared/news/nation/stories/09/08KATRINA_RESCUE.html

5. NOT making excuses. Dogs showing fear are

easily distinguished from aggressive dogs. They shouldn't be shooting ANY dogs unless they are AGGRESSIVE - PERIOD. If I encountered an aggressive dog and I had a weapon, I would use it. In fact, I had the misfortune of encountering an aggressive pit bull in my own front yard one day. He was between me and my front door and my hands were empty. I barely escaped, only because of my knowledge of animals. If I had tried to run, he would have had me.

Edit: Did you even read my post above? Where did I condone shooting anything but aggressive dogs. Making excuses? No. Accepting reality.

7. See videos and judge for yourself if these dogs are aggressive

Watch all of both. Thanks! Not saying you are wrong, you aren't, but take a look at the dogs in these cases.

8. Vicious versus friendly.
What I am saying is shooting is justifiable if the dog is aggressive and vicious. I watched that video yesterday and it was horrifying. They were two obviously friendly dogs just wandering around and threatening no one. The people who shot those dogs deserve to be strung up by their toes!

9. It seems that the shootings are isolated events by idiotic individuals
The Coast Guard and National Guard have started helping with animal rescue, to the extent that they can. Link on right side of hsus.org page.
