A rabbi (I didn't get his name) said that God had nothing to do with the hurricane, though WE, as God's eyes, ears, and hands, have the responsibility to act with compassion with regards to helping those who were suffering. (minor paraphrase)...
This is a religious viewpoint I COMPLETELY agree with...in fact, it echoes my own spiritual sentiments, and I consider myself a humanist pantheist.

He was the rabbi for Temple Sinai in New Orleans. He and his wife evacuated to Atlanta and are living there for now.
