Subject: Cajun National Guard - We are all Cajuns

Dear Sirs,

I have known some of these wonderful men in my life. Do not underestimate them. They are unique in that they are white and black in their culture when they had to hide in the swamps with each other. They have had a long lengthy history of being persecuted by the local dictators of their time. When they get over the shock, no, they are not going to enlist as Reg Army. They are going to be really mad. Why do you think FEMA is so ready, besides the frightened black poor being shuttled around, besides the body bags? The Cajuns are coming home. God love every Cajun and their wonderful culture and food. They truly know the price of liberty - are we to move them away again? It won't happen. They love their bayous as a mother loves a child. I ask for anyone who cares about what is unique, to stand with them, their biggest crime was to vote Democratic. I have to vent. I want all people to know, we ALL have some Cajun in us - the desire to be free from a tyranny of the privileged few.

1. Geaux Cajuns!
Although I think Chimpy has less to worry about from them than from the voodoo folks, but that's just me.

Lindsay, Honorary Cajun and proud of it!

2. yep and ......
They are also likely Catholics. That is why I gave to Catholic Relief. My mother was French Cajun and I do know what you mean about the Cajuns. I hope we did not lose too many of them.

btw ... the persecution is because they were run out of Canada (basically) because of their religion. Same story different year.

3. the Acadienne expulsion of 1755 wasn't really about religion,
the british violated the treaty of Utrecht, and forced every Frenchman in the Maritimes to sign an oath of loyalty to the King of England, or be forcibly deported (some were even sold into slavery in the west indies) - the Acadians/Acadiennes had farmed the land in the Maritimes, damned rivers, etc. - basically it was a land grab by the British, as well as getting rid of any malcontents/possible enemy combatants when the british moved their own settlers in.

the Cajun's probably kept their Catholicism, but those that returned to the Maritimes didn't really get Catholic churches back until the Quebecois and France started shipping priests to them in the 1840-60's.
