Wow! The Marines must be pretty hard up these days! |
|
They are all around my neighborhood (in civillian clothing) trying to wash cars and begging for donations.
Is it for Katrina or has Bush cut their pay again?

1. Wish they would come here. I just got some $$ for my b-day and would |
|
actually consider paying them to clean my house. Instead of Merry Maids I could hire Marine Maids. *lol* ------------------------------------------------------ Ditch Bu$h and save the Gulf: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=106&topic_id=22507&mesg_id=22507 Then save the nation! http://www.geocities.com/greenpartyvoter/electionreform.htm

2. Having been a Marine once upon a time |

I can tell you for a fact that if there is one thing they know how to do is scrub and clean. They call it a "field day". I guess that is why I've never been the best of housekeepers, lol.

4. Usually run by 2nd Lts trying to show how "tough" they were. |
|
"Oh, dust under the mattress!! Do it all again." We had a real mutiny one night after the jerk-off with the bars told us to "Do it again" for the 4th time at 0100. Ran him out of the barracks, and the idiot called the MPs to quell us. We were waiting for them with entrenching tools when a mustang captain arrived and told the MPs to disappear and told us to hit the rack.
Eat the apple and fuck the corps.

8. Worse. I was in the Air Wing. They were pilots. |
|
They thought because they could drive a jet (sort of) that they were little Gods and believed we should that since they were given little brass thingies when they got their drivers licenses that they were "leaders of men". What a laugh. Glorified bus drivers.

and our field days were usually supervised by the Sgts and Cpls who lived at the other end of the barracks with us. The higher-ups stayed out of the way. We had a few lifers who would nit-pick now and again, but no real trouble ever happened in my area. Luckily for me, I was mostly in the field or at sea, so I did not have to experience barracks life that much. Also, being a lowly grunt, I rarely ever saw anyone higher than a SSgt or Gunny except during a company formation; the lieutenants rarely had anything to do with us as they would just tell the Sgts to take care of it.
Once, one of the platoon leaders I had wanted to try and get to know his troops and we were sitting around during evening chow (OMG, I actually remember the one I had: C-rat scrambled eggs and ham :puke: ) when the LT made the remark: "Well, f**k me to tears..." The Corpsman, the only one who could get away with it, replied: "Well, with all due respect sir, bend over." The whole group stopped cold, then burst into hysterical laughter. The LT did not dare do anything. He just walked away. Shortly thereafter, the Gunny told us to go easy on him.

7. Two possible reasons I can think of |
|
1. The Marines run an annual "Toys for Tots" program to buy toys for needy children at XMas. This may be fundraising.
2. In the Navy, the initiation to Chief Petty Officer is a pretty big deal and the new selectees are responsible for paying for their ceremony. They usually hold some kind of car wash or similar fundraiser. Perhaps this is a Gunnery Sergeant equivalent?

It is the weekend, and Marine reservists do Toys for Tots too. I'd much rather see them helping the evacuees in the shelters Warner brought in this week. (I peeked at your profile and noticed you are in Richmond !)
