Quotes from the shrub's first speech as president
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 12:55 PM by neohippie
It' wasn't a blame game, when they attacked the dems...
it is finally time for their own words and works came back to bite them!

"Encouraging responsibility is not a search for scapegoats, it is a call to conscience. And though it requires sacrifice, it brings a deeper fulfillment. We find the fullness of life not only in options, but in commitments. And we find that children and community are the commitments that set us free.

Our public interest depends on private character, on civic duty and family bonds and basic fairness, on uncounted, unhonored acts of decency which give direction to our freedom.

Sometimes in life we are called to do great things. But as a saint of our times has said, every day we are called to do small things with great love. The most important tasks of a democracy are done by everyone.

I will live and lead by these principles: to advance my convictions with civility, to pursue the public interest with courage, to speak for greater justice and compassion, to call for responsibility and try to live it as well.

In all these ways, I will bring the values of our history to the care of our times."

Ah, an' terraists--they take responsibility, too."

Recommended; may this come back to haunt him.

4. Bush's speeches always read better than he could possibly deliver them
That's why I think so many people have built him up to an almost godlike status.

A lot of his speeches use sound-byte quotes that sound stirring, but also as though they were blatantly lifted from a hollywood screenplay. Its almost as if they are saying, "Well, this is what a good leader is supposed to sound like, so lets go for that".

But, to actually hear the man deliver the words himself, to watch him speak and come to the realization that the moron has no idea what he is saying and is just reading (words that you feel are probably phonetically spelled out for him) then suddenly you just aren't as impressed.

Just watch.

When Bush is remembered by history, those who want to remember him fondly and continue to reside in the fantasy world that was built around him will publish his quotes, but they will never let you see a video of him saying those words.

5. Four years later, here's how he's done:
The meat of the quote:

"to advance my convictions with civility, to pursue the public interest with courage, to speak for greater justice and compassion, to call for responsibility and try to live it as well."

Specifically, how has he done?

1. He has NEVER taken responsibility!

2. Justice for the poor (i.e. making bankruptcy harder without working on gouging through high interest rates: usry) while helping the rich through favorable bankruptcy rules and removing the estate tax.

3. His best speaking occurs when its full of HATE. Several experts have commented on this.

4. Taking money away from levee construction was sooo unwise and certainly not courageous or in the public interest.

5. He's advanced his "convictions" with lies (i.e. Swift boat liars), hate (i.e. gay marriage), and cronnyism Never Ever Civility!!!
