I don't know about you, but I want my country back. |
|
I don't know where it went in the past 4+ years, but its becoming more clear every day that someone has stolen the country that dreamed Martin Luther King's dream of freedom and equality.
Someone has stolen the country that dreamed of a solid, prosperous middle class and the jobs that are necessary to maintain that lifestyle.
Someone has stolen the country where children could dream of becoming the President of the United States without having to be born into a wealthy upper crust family.
I want to find the country that didn't used to turn its back on people in the grip of a disaster and leave them in the disaster's aftermath to survive or die without food and water. Someone has stolen our compassion, concern for our fellow human being, and our ability to care for those less fortunate than ourselves.
Someone has stolen the country that was generous and replaced it with a cold hard bunch of greed-filled misers. They've stolen the country where we used to root instinctively for the little guy to cross the finish line and replaced it with a "winning is the only thing that matters" mentality.
I'm tired of this new country that I find myself living in. I don't like it or the people that inhabit it. I want MY country back.

what we felt and knew was going on is now exposed to all. So many are coming out of the woodwork to voice their bigotry and hate.
When did this country give up on trying to be better people and a better country? It started with Reagan and is blossoming now.
I want my country back too.

do you mean just the Bush administration, or the decades that came before where the process was already happening?

7. there was much to improve, BUT there were many things to be proud of |
|
now, when I look at much of what's going on today----there's little to be proud of and WAY too much to be ashamed of
