The amount of people in this land mass that aren't zombies |
|
I'm often pained by people making comments like "we were all together after 9/11". I don't remember that at all. Within seconds of seeing the impact on TV. I knew exactly what was going to happen. And there was not a moment when I felt together with the rest of the people around me. The predictable reaction started instantly.
From the start, it was like invasion of the body snatchers, or night of the living dead. Everyone starts chanting monotonous slogans and making repetitive bashing noises: "support the troops", "kill the afghanis", "we stand united", "one of us", "kill the Iraqis", "support the troops".
I live in California and in a place known for lesbianism, where it's supposedly ultra-liberal. And I rarely rarely rarely ever meet anyone remotely liberal. I mean people will say they are democrats (which someone is rumored to have said was related to liberalism somehow), but they are just reactionary beasts that would not hesitate to kill me if they knew me, unless there was effort involved.
So, can you tell a tale of people near you in a bread and butter neighborhood, that you think might not be zombies? I think it's like .01% at best.

2. I live in a small town in Maine |
|
And we had about 75 people show up for the Cindy Sheehan vigil.
There are "Impeach" signs popping up all over town.
There's plenty of reason for hope.

4. By recent polls, we outnumber the Bushbots 61-39 |
|
Look, I know what you mean about the normal, career-driven overachieving, selfish, overworked, basically ignorant of history and politics people who middle-manage this country. But, even they know that they're the next in line to be sacrificed to the infernal gods of the Bushites.

5. I think maybe I'm a zombie |
|
because I WAS one of those people who DID feel the incredible unity. Sure, I am realistic enough to know it would probably eventually dissolve into anger, blame, recrimination, demands, etc. But for me, the unity got me through those dark days. Yes, I flew the flag. I had never been a flag waver, but suddenly I loved those colors.
Some of this might be my generation: boomer. We had never had a chance, like our parents, to bind together behind our colors. Ours was the first generation to burn those colors. This was our turn.
I think of myself as a compassionate person, not easily riled but God forgive me, I, too, wanted revenge. Maybe I am not as evolved as I thought I was. It has taken four years to work through that.
So while I share your concern, I also hope we can cut the zombies some slack because some of us wake us slower than others. But we DO wake up.

7. About 75 percent of the people I know are not zombies |
|
We all have out zombie moments, and sometimes we're zombies about one thing but not another.
If your definition of a zombie is someone who does not share your own views 100 percent, than perhaps it's time to rethink your definitions.
