Republicans are walking contradictions ....
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 07:51 PM by kentuck
They talk about working hard and becoming wealthy and voting Republican. However, when they have a chance to reward hard work, such as rebuilding New Orleans and the Gulf Coast of America, they want to pay the laborers "prevailing wages", which in southern Louisiana is about 9.00 per hour for truck drivers. I'm sure after he pays his rent and grocery money, he will be able to invest the other half on Wall Street and someday be a wealthy Republican.

But at least, it will be more than the minimu wage of 5.15. Five dollars and fifteen fucking cents! Talking about a disgrace. The way we treat labor in this country is a disgrace. And since it is the American people that are handing out the money to rebuild the Gulf Coast, why would George Bush and the Republicans think we would only want to pay them "prevailing wages"? I think a minimum wage for this type of construction labor should be about 14.00 per hour. I have no idea why they are so fucking cheap???

1. But they trot out the tired whiny old "but if we raise the wage then the
cost and price of everything will go up and you'll still be in the same boat."

To which I say, BS. Cap CEO pay and make sure more of it goes to the workers.

7. The 'problem' is not the wages of the MINIMUM WAGE earners......
The 'problem' is in the BOARD ROOM and the ridiculous wages paid to the corporate hierarchy. It is time to cut through the CRAP!!!!!

2. Thanks to Seeing them In Power
Most people now know Republicons suck at governing this country. And are corrupt to the core.

3. hmm?
I thought the plan was to pay these people LESS than prevailing wage...So, truck drivers won't see 9.00/hr but more like $7.

4. Bingo! The war criminals want the suffering to keep suffering
They won't even pay the already criminal prevailing wage. Bush made sure he signed off on that chop-chop!

6. They have folks bent over a barrel down there
The people have no job, additional expenses, extra hardships (just getting water or gas can be a challenge), etc. They're ripe for working for any wage. The people trying to come back will take anything that can generate income at this point, even at minimum wage. The republicans know this.

8. the South is like that ANYWAY...people over a barrel, so now, when they've
lost EVERYTHING, we're going to make it just that much HARDER for people to get back on their feet. Makes sense to me. (sarcasm)

10. Republicans really are elitists
I'm tired of them looking in the mirror and then using what they see as a reverse psychology game where we are so aghast at the hypocrisy that we don't even know how to respond. I'm just ignoring them now, they don't exist to me. The repukes I know get annoyed when nobody cares what their opinions are - too f'in bad.

11. 14.00 an hour for a construction worker is not unreasonable.
The average wage in this country is around 15.
