Landrieu Escalates Rhetoric Against Bush, White House
September 11, 2005

NEW ORLEANS -- Louisiana's senior U.S. senator on Sunday accused the White House of a "full court press" to blame state and local officials for the slow response to Hurricane Katrina.

Democrat Mary Landrieu said officials at all levels eventually will share blame for the response.

But on CBS' "Face the Nation," Landrieu said that only the Bush administration is pointing the finger.

On "Fox News Sunday," Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana said he would give "the entire big government relief effort a failing grade, across the board."

Viter added that state and local governments also share in the blame.

For all the Dem bashers, this is how our government works. It is not up to the Governor or the Mayor of any state to 'bring down the president.' They have to try to put a good face on things and go with the program, since they do not have oversight powers for the Federal Government.

The people who do have 'oversight powers' are the Senators and Representatives. It is up to them to exercise these powers and to be the voice of the opposition. While Blanco and Nagin are pretending that things are okay again with the WH and keeping the tap open for the assistance that Bush happens to control, Mary Landrieu is back in DC doing her job. This is how the game is played, good, bad or indifferent, it's just the way it is.

But one thing is for sure, last time I saw Mary which was this AM, she was kicking butt and is speaking truth to power. Patience folks, let's not eat our own, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

2. getting the Port Cresent Rebuilt Quickly is what she wants...
I wouldn't be so quick to paint her as a hero...she has a voting record which isn't good for Democratic Principles.

But, she's gutsy and it's nice to see her out there. One just needs to know where she's coming from.

IOW's would she be for rebuilding EVERYTHING even if there's toxic waste which could kill the builders, bulldozers and workers on the ground just to get the Port City and the Engergy Crescent which she has mentioned alot up and working ASAP? How much would she sacrifice for that?

And, frankly, if any of us were in her place would we put JOBS over Health and Safety if it meant our families could survive? Even if our kids and grandkids were left deformed and we died early?

It's a hard call.
