Ohio High School has 64 Pregnant Students
Mods -- please don't place in the State/Country Forums because this article reflects on some sex ed issues....

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory?id=1088943

A quote from a mother of one of these pregnant students..BTW, the school did have an abstinence-based program...

"It's time to take the blinders off and realize that these kids are having sex," she said. "Obviously, abstinence is not working. If we have to, just give them condoms."

She just came to this conclusion? We've discussed the effectiveness of abstinence-based sex ed on GD a loooooooooooong time ago!

1. I pray my 11 year old does not choose to have sex.
But if she (By the gods not) choose to have sex w/o talking to me......... I PRAY (atheist) that she has a competent family planning person to talk to!!!!

5. Well what is stopping parents
from giving condoms to their kids?

They cost about 40 cents and are at every 7-11.

Parents -- how's about some responsibility.

Some responsibility from kids would be nice too.

BTW - this is nothing new. I taught long ago and once had a clss where three of the eleven girls in the class were pregnant. One was her second pregnancy. These were 14 year olds.

7. Very religious in the Canton area
Might have something to do with the abstinence-only based program. I live in Cleveland and it freaks me out when I go there.

Do you know there are towns around there that a DRY? (no alcohol sales) I had spend a couple nights in a hotel and was shocked that I had to drive to the next city to buy a 6-pack of beer for my hotel room. Freaky. But it goes to show you the type of people who live in that area.
