And as if the West Wing were suddenly snakebit, his franchise player, senior adviser and deputy chief of staff, Karl Rove, was on the disabled list for part of last week, working from home after being briefly hospitalized with painful kidney stones.

Somebody's trying to send you a message, Karl...

ETA: I love your screenname. LOL!

6. I've had kidney stones
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 04:24 AM by China_cat
and the pain you have is not just when you pee. It's constant and it's horrible and he deserves every last bit of it.

Edited to add that I'd rather have 6 days of labor producing a 22 lb. baby. Vaginally.

8. LOL, I have never had children, but I'd have to agree with you.
Kidney stones suck, had me laid up for about a week.

5. I hat to say this, but these people inspire these sorts of reactions
in me. I hope they are giant stones, the kind you can't pass. He's earned every bit of pain he gets in this world.

9. Sorry to hear about your kidney(s)
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 06:31 AM by HereSince1628
I've only passed one kidney stone in my life, more than 30 years ago when I was in my early twenties, a little cone-shaped thing probably 3 mm long, or less, with wonderfully jagged sharp points on the broken large end which likely wasn't much more than a mm. in diameter.

It did hurt like hell. For 4 days. The hospitalization and surgery added to the discomfort...but none of this is the point, which is:

I personally dislike "I'm tougher" stories/posts particularly when they are sexist and evidenced by anecdotes.

Who is to say that people do not have authentically different experiences with medical/health problems? Considering the variability among people and pathology I find the concept that everyone has similar experience with these very unlikely.

At the risk of getting preachy I'd say just this...How one responds to the medical suffering of a political opponent, or other classes of social/economic others, is a measure of one's own compassion.

10. That's Nice
I personally dislike being preached at, but that's just me. This could have been handled in a PM, but I'm sure you wanted to stand on the streetcorner to let everyone know that you're a better person than I am.

I'm sure you are. In ways too many to count.

My kidneys are failing and I have massive scarring from a chronic infection ... and on top of that, I pass stones nearly every month. So I may not be a better person than you are, but I probably am tougher. (Younger, too, by at least a decade.)

Oh, and I pass jackstones. So yes, I know what "wonderfully jagged sharp points" are. I hope Rover isn't as tough as I am.

11. I've Had Over 200 Stones; One Removed Surgically
Perhaps as a punishment for being a miserable person, I've passed stones every 30-45 days for the last 15+ years, and I had to have one removed surgically earlier this year (not due to size, but because it was a struvite stone). I'll just prove my horrible character and wish for Rover what I had myself for 10 days:

This goes *in* the kidney, by the way.

12. Don't Mess With The Voodoo Queens
Perhaps we're about to see an epidemic
of kidney stones throughout the Reichwing.
