Here's all you need to know about the "freedom march" mindset
From an article in today's Washington Post:

"The afternoon's loudest cheers were for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who received a standing ovation but whose invocation of John F. Kennedy was greeted with silence."

Makes you proud, don't it? :sarcasm:

1. That march was such a fricking farce
One DUer told about how her SO, a federal employee, received emails all week about attending the event.

From the Houston Chronicle it mentioned that the bulk of attendees were actually federal employees (probably pressurized by upper management) and employees of Lockheed Martin (job security since they're defense contractors and they want war).

2. Rumsfeld exonerated Nagin and Blanco on Friday, too.
First he said that they couldn't be blamed, because they were victims, and then he was invoking JFK? Someone needs to check his meds.

3. Here's a bit more about the mindset:

I think most Americans, with even a bit of instinct left, were rubbed the wrong way by this whole thing. And rightly so. It just reeked of Stalinist-style propaganda.

And actually did a disservice to the troops as a result. :(

5. Perfect...
Everything this administration does, whether it be W's public speeches with hand-picked audiences or Simple Scotty's press briefings with plant reporters reeks of Stalinist propaganda.

4. Evoking JFK - hmm, didn't JFK say something about asking what you
can do for your country, not what it can do (tax breaks) for you ?

No wonder Rummy got a chilly response . . . these people's ideas of "sacrifice" are taking a Sunday afternoon off to go for a walk under armed guard (guns and bayonets pointing away from the walkers - unlike other "Freedom Walks" of the past . . .)
