Bush was responsible BEFORE Katrina. Just look at his policies. |

When, WHEN are people going to get it. Most of us here have yelled and screamed this to the point of exhaustion. But "middle America" just doesn't seem to quite fathom the idea that maybe, just maybe things could have been better BEFORE this hurricane hit.
Imagines of the poor in NO has rattled America and also the world. How could we do such horrific things to our own? People gasp in horror at what they see, but only because it is broad-casted right in front of their eyes. You would have to be on a deserted island to not see what has been going in NO the last two weeks. I just wonder how many would have gasped in horror at what they would have seen in this poverty stricken area before the hurricane hit. This poverty isn't something that "just came up" because of this hurricane.
When hurricane Lili hit NO in 2002, my spouse worked in NO as a disaster inspector. The areas that are underwater now are the very areas he inspected in 2002. To hear him speak of the horrific housing conditions THEN--when the water wasn't leveling houses--was despicable. He asked me the rhetorical question, "how can we let this go on in our country"? Hmm. Good question.
Those of us who are familiar with life in the south know all too well this does and HAS existed for years. But here's the part that really gets me, as well as a few others I'm sure. When you have horrific conditions, doesn't it make sense to allow each person a better way of life by allowing them to make more than $5 bucks an hour? Providing the opportunity to work in your own country rather than have your job out-sourced to one that is thousands of miles around the globe.
When congress voted down raising the minimum wage they put another nail in the coffin for poverty. Those who voted for this should all hang their head in shame. But they made sure they got their tax cuts. Good grief.
By not providing adequate health care, another nail. To continue to allow jobs to be outsourced pound in another nail. By giving the f****** rich a tax cut and what could be considered the cream of the land, another one. Everything this administration has done has been to benefit the rich--NOT AMERICANS--THE RICH.
For this, I blame George Bush and his republican friends. Have they no mercy? Oh, yeah, now they do (or the "appearance") since it's shown for the world to see how "bad" things are:eyes: Aren't they suppose to be "compassionate conservatives"? Yeah, right:eyes: Oh, and lets not forget how "christian" they are...his party sure fell for that one.
We can and SHOULD do much better than this. Is this hurricane what it took to expose what should have been exposed long ago? I don't know, but if we don't do something about this now--AFTER THE FACT--then why the hell call this the "richest" country in the world?

When I speak to repugs about Katrina, their first response is the mayor and governor failed. The truth is Bush has failed us not just because he didn't respond fast enough, but his entire presidency has failed the American people.
You can start with his appointments, his fiscal policies, the war, etc. He is responsible for the mess in Louisiana but it goes way back before August 28th!

|
the local officials for something that has been going on for years under his presidency continues to be the motto of this administration,"blame them, blame them."
I'm all for accountability and if there if blame --real blame-- for this catastrophe to be placed on the local officials so be it. But think we all know what's really going on here.
