7. I wanted them to print his title as:
"The Right Honorable Representative E. Scott Garrett, the Earl of Sussex (county, where he lives), whose name should henceforth be pronounced with a higher pitch in your voice." but I submitted the letter without the last part about the higher pitch.

We have the right to say any damn thing we want, I'd write another letter to the editor about his calling you.

15. Your closing line was brilliant
"Garrett should try being more compassionate with his conservatism, and less conservative with his compassion. Some people depend on it."

That's a quotable quote if ever I saw one.

Nice!

I just read it's attributable to Randi Rhodes, and so therefore I thank the both of you.

my only regret is that I didn't open my desk drawer to use my voice recorder

it's all over the internets, now

I'm thinking of writing a press release using my title of Democratic County Committeeman.

10. Do you have caller ID? Or did you star 69 the call?
If you didn't verify it was him, you could call his office and find out.

Tell them you thought it was very odd that the Congressman asked you to write another letter stating that you now understand his vote, so perhaps it was not him, since that was a very strange way to strongarm a voter.

11. these strongarm tactics
need to be verified and documented. This guy is outta control.

These arrogant bullies think they can just call up private citizens exercizing their legitimate rights of free speech and attempt to coerce them to retract statements. Talk about abuse of power.

9. Wow
I wonder what he is doing to try to get more accountability in government - if that is what really concerns him.

Seems like that could all be part of the plan - for the gov't to be ridiculous and irresponsible with money - give it to friends companies - lose it - so reps can vote like he did and pretend justification. Maybe that should be the next letter - instead of the one HE wants...

14. Write another LTTE re: His call, his anger
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 03:14 PM by Whoa_Nelly
(which comes across as passive bullying), and point out that apparently your previous LTTE struck a raw nerve, and by calling you in anger and expecting you to write another LTTE DEFENDING HIM (flip-flop orders from him), is a prime example of how the GOP operates using bullying tactics and passive/implicit threats.

PS Could you post your original LTTE here?
Thanks :hi:

PPS In getting caught up in reading through your other links, I posted the above in the NJ forum. Since I don't usually visit that forum would love to see your original LTTE here. THX!

17. Kire, just so you know, Bernie Ward was arguing the same thing
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 03:47 PM by BullGooseLoony
that he was.

They authorized 50 BILLION dollars without even saying where it was going to go. Most probably, a whole lot of it is going to end up like the 8 billion in Iraq. In the hands of Bush's buddies, unaccounted for.

That's irresponsible fiscal policy. It took a lot of courage to do what he did.

Is he typically a winger, or a real conservative?

Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 04:37 PM by Kire
what janeeane garofalo calls a "nu-metal" Republican, a real winger

but he did vote against CAFTA, which went against type, too

I get what you're saying, though.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But, calling me at my house was scary. He was pleading with me, though. Like I said in what I wrote, I could tell he was upset by the lack of oversight and obviously cared more than words about the hurricane victims.

I'm willing to work with him, but he needs to be clearer about all this stuff.

22. Well, really ask him.
Ask some winger, litmus questions. Feel him out.

I'm actually, myself, kind of disturbed at the seemingly ridiculously lackadaisical way that 50 BILLION dollars was just thrown out there.
