Isn't this the week SCOTUS decides to hear Sibel Edmonds case?
Thought I remembered that they would decide by the 15th whether or not to hear Edmonds case later on.

Sibel hearing could be a major event, of course, and hopefully it would happen in time to do some good.

2. Actually, I think the deadline is the middle of October...

When the court goes back in session!

I'm really hoping that the Dems threaten to fillibuster (and perhaps follow through on it through at least the end of October), so as to help her get her case resolved in her favor while we have a Stevens lead court in place. All she needs is four justices to vote to hear her in order for her case to be heard. I would think the four progressive justices would vote in her favor. If they do, that's a good indication that they might rule in her favor (along with Steven's deciding tiebreaker vote as acting chief justice).

Gotta hope that Roberts doesn't get on the court before her case gets heard!

Get a mug, button, or a bumper sticker to help spread the word! Profits will be donated to her legal defense fund.

3. From Bellaciao, dated 3 Sept:
http://bellaciao.org/en/article.php3?id_article=8023

snip/
Most prominent is Sibel Edmonds, who is waiting for the Supreme Court to review her charges that the behaviour of some of her fellow employees at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) compromised national security.

Lower courts turned down her case when the FBI claimed the "state secrets" privilege, contending that disclosure of Edmonds’ evidence would reveal classified information.

Edmonds, a contract linguist for the bureau, was the subject of an investigation by the Department of Justice inspector general, who found that her charges were the major reason for her dismissal.

She organised and now leads the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition, which includes more than 50 former employees of national security agencies. The group has called on congress to permit whistleblowers to sue government retaliators in their personal and official capacities and to bring suit against agencies for failure to rectify misdeeds by employees or provide sufficient safeguards against whistleblower retaliation. snip/
