*ranting, raving, throwing furniture, kicking the TV*
Hi,

Yes, I'm ok. Thank you for checking in. My blood pressure is a bit high at the moment because I'm having trouble keeping this action alert up and getting people to participate in it.

If you've already given the media and Congress a piece of your mind over the Gulf disaster response, great! You're free to go. If not, I have some really handy dandy easy peasy email forms you can fill out at major activism networks like Move-On that will contact the media and your congress critters for you.

Some of them have prewritten letters, some do not however the activism thread below is chock full of DUer letters, pick one and borrow it. There are plenty of other Katrina facts and figures in the thread as well if you need more ammo. If you prefer to call the Hill and chew out a real live human being you can find that info there as well.

Please, we need help shouting down the spin doctors and the repugs on the Hill. We need numbers and volume. We have to speak up for the people whose lives were torn apart or ended by Katrina, FEMA, and Fatherland InSecurity. If we don't speak up for them, who will?

Thank you!

1. GPV, I'm with you. Now that we have a sympathetic press and elected
officials in outrage, we need to continue feeding information to them while thanking and encouraging them. I just got off this one:

"Why is Blackwater Security patrolling NO @ $350/day ???

http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/09/12/142...

Our National Guard isn't capable? This is further abuse of the situation by Bush administration cronies who reap large profits at the expense of the American taxpayer. It is also demeaning to our brave service men/women who are paid a mere pittance for doing the same work. The GOP culture of corruption rewards their pay to play loyalty with absurd pay-offs.

The tie-in
is the DeVos family of Amway. Blackwater is owned by Eric Prince brother of Betsy, wife of Dick DeVos son of Amway founder and now CEO. Betsy was past GOP chair in MI.

I say feed the fury! these despicable neocons need to be stopped NOW!

on edit-I don't think anyone is going to be "free to go" until our job is done. Regime change starts at home.

Okay I've finally gotten off my fat arse and told my reps how sickened I am about the federal government's failure to respond and the need NOT to cut taxes. . .take a chill pill!

Thanks for the reminder.

7. I can't take a chill pill. I've been trying for several days to get this
thing off the ground and I just can't do it. Sinks like a stone every time I post it. *sigh*

But thanks for telling your reps what's what. Every call and letter helps. And so does replying to this post since it keeps the thread alive. *g*

15. Ok. I just hope it isn't Jean Hay Bright. She tweaked my nose
when she jumped in line to get in front of me to ask Cindy Sheehan a question and tout her campaign at the Full Circle Fair.

Of course, I am biased when it comes to her because my dad has known her for years and had some less than flattering things to say about her. :P And anyway, I still got to ask Cindy my wuestion about the DSM and plamegate.. and I plugged DU too! *g*

9. I called the White House last week and ranted for an actual 5-10 minutes
with a real person and then I called my favorite, Kay Bailey-H. office in Dallas. Would you believe they told me, they had the nerve to try and to tell me I did not need to be contacting her, I need to be contacting "my representative"! Whoa, hold on a minute dear, she is a Senator, right? I get to vote every once and a while for a State Senatore, right? Yes, well then she represents me, right? Yes, well then why in the hell are you telling me I need to call someone else? HOW DARE YOU!

Once again I reiterate, I will do everything within my power to make sure Kay is defeated in whatever position she may decide to run for next, she is a miserable politician and most of all she is a miserable mother and grandmother. Period, and thank you very much.

19. Oh, anarchy1999, you should have asked them if she wants your vote
Our politicians here are just too sure of themselves.

I have a stack of letters from KBH telling me how she supports every damn thing bush has proposed that I've ever written her about. I get the form reply, I appreciate your concern but you're wrong and I'm with him, or words to that effect. I only wish I had complained about Brown being placed as head of FEMA to her so I'd have that one to throw in her bush butt kissing face.

20. I get the same sorta letters from Olympia, except that she's nicer about
it than Kay. But still, she peddles all the GOP talking points on most issues. (Like the last reply I got fomr her--finally--where she pooh poohed my demands to look into the DSM because the war was ok since they made the decision on the intel that was available at the time. *ARGH*)

16. Yes, you did and you rule! *hugs* I wasn't able to compose
a letter that fast. It takes me time to stew and simmer and get all the points arranged in my subconsciousness before I can type it out. And then I have to have all of DU proof it before I can send it. :P

Actually I hate doing LTTEs because of having to ride out the "rebuttals", even if they come from far away and days after the fact. Makes me sick to my stomach when people argue with me. (I woulda made a great trial lawyer, eh?)

But I have to get over my fears and just do it. Good government doesn't just happen. Citizens have to make it work.
