Am I missing something here? Plus I read recently that Cuba is FAR MORE ABLE TO0 HANDLE THIS KIND OF CRISIS THAN THE US ANYWAY!

I get the impression that accepting their help somehow aids and abets Communism. Uh, OK.

1. Cuba deals with hurricanes very frequently...
and has done so for its entire existence. They've had no choice but to
get good at dealing with them.

One note of amazing irony: The most devastating hurricane before Katrina
was an un-named storm in 1900, which hit the Gulf at Galveston TX.
Between 8000 and 10,000 people died. The ironic part was that Cuba
tried to warn the US about the storm so that Galveston could be evacuated.
The US refused, not wanting the newly formed Weather Bureau to be
taking advice from heathens (they weren't even Commies then) in Cuba.
Even then the Cubans were good at dealing with hurricanes, and could
tell that as the 1900 storm was moving off their island, it was getting much
worse and heading straight for the Texas coast.

2. It is more important for this administration to have an 'ENEMY'.......
90 miles south of Key West, than to accept help from trained medical experts that could help save American lives. We already know the value of American lives to the bush administration.
