Bush suspends Davis-Bacon Act
Now this is highway robbery!!!

<<snip>>
With the suspension of the 1931 Davis-Bacon Act, companies will not be obligated to match the wages in these areas, which are already lower than in most parts of the country. In the New Orleans area, for example, the prevailing wage for an electrician is $14.30 and for a construction worker or a truck driver working on a levee it is about $9.

6. You can't even SAY that
...without a knee-jerk reaction... I know well for I had a little tagline that read ELIMINATE BUSH ( I meant from office) but someone (freep) turned me in and next thing I knew, there was our local sheriff accompanying an FBI agent to my door! They had reams of my e-mails!!!! Since I am in a wheelchair, the FBI guy seemed to figure out that I could not get to * ... so... he just slapped my wrists, so to speak, and went his way... but it was a really STUPID coupla hours as he grilled me, then visited a fedw neighbors asking questions about me and even called my wife AT WORK to ask if I beat her!!!!! Are you ready for all that? I wasn't. It gets embarrassing being an American at times...under this Nazi administration!

All that to say this...be CAREFUL what you say or how you say it. It can be taken out of context and used to screw you by this buncha creeps.

13. I'm talking IMPEACHEMENT
Someone needs to step up to the plate and DEMAND impeachment hearings. They don't have the balls to do it,though. If they can impeach a President over a private sexual matter, then why in the hell can't they impeach this moron who has SCREWED THE ENTIRE COUNTRY???

5. That's what I say...............
I spread this information to anyone I talked to (sadly, not that many people any more) and every single one was outraged. This is the kind of stuff the "average" citizen gets pissed off about.

This, coupled with the fact that * DIDN'T cap profits by his billionaire buddies during this time of national crisis.

14. Because "the press" doesn't really work for a living.
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 10:42 AM by Beelzebud
People that sit in office buildings tend to think they deserve more than a guy doing manual labor.

Thats just the simple, sad truth.

3. A right-wing Capitalist called Jerry Springer this AM:
He was all self righteous about how the Davis-Bacon Act meant he had to pay a person $32.50/Hour regardless of their skills. He felt it was wrong for the government to tell him how much he had to pay, even though they were PAYING HIM for his companies work. Jerry told him he didn't know about his situation, but he felt it was morally wrong to pay below "prevailing" wage...which I am sure we all agree with. I just don't see any way in hell this guys situation had any relation to the rebuilding of New Orleans...surely they are not paying anyone near that wage down south. Whine, Whine, Whine...poor company owners, can't make money if we have to pay a man a wage! SHAME on these assholes, btw they say Grover Norquist's first, FIRST thought when the Hurricane approached was to suspend the Davis-Bacon Act in the aftermath!!

8. it came from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)
big business central.

and the best part? federal grants are still based on Davis-Bacon schedules, not only to the companies not have to pay prevailing wages, THEY GET TO KEEP THE DIFFERENCE.

7. Send it out to the media!
I just did, along with a preface note:
IF you want to show you care about the victims of Katrina, as all your anchors claim they do, then you will cover this important news.

10. Someone pointed on a talk show this morning...
that not only does this affect what these contractors/workers are getting paid now, it could also affect what Katrina survivors are paid in loss benefits too, if they aren't able to work, etc. due to injuries, since the "prevailing wage" that is being paid out to others there now will be a lot lower and allow payouts to be commensurately smaller too.

15. Hmm, I wonder if this is the main point of this move...
Reduce those potentially huge payouts to people who can't work.

12. It makes perfect sense ...
It would cut into corporate profits and the poor might not be as poor if prevailing wages were paid ... That would not be OK with the louse ridden Chimp and the evil cabal.

With this scheme, the poor can be even poorer, with no chance of recovery. You've got to admit that this has been a consistent success of chimpy's ....the poor get poorer and more working/middle class people enter the ranks of the poor. If this isn't neocon success I don't know what is.

16. Bush* just listed nine more states as disaster areas so that is twelve now
that Davis-Bacon o longer applies for. One fourth of the nation and not one peep from the Unions about this. They should hold a national walk out. If they don't stand up now then they are history and no longer a viable force in politics or employment in America. Bush* is succeeding in a GOP goal that has been there for seventy years. No wonder Bush* is a right wing Hero. No one and I mean No one will stand up against him. I believed the Unions still held a small amount of clout but apparently I am wrong. They are as impotent as the Democrats.
