Yes, there ARE terrorists out there, but as long as there are rational, everyday explanations for a goings-on (and there are MANY for this), I'm going to go with that.

Everything's fine.

I guess I even kind of implied it, by accident, in one of my responses to another thread- it's kind of ingrained, at this point, which is what makes this thread so understandable in my mind.

But are you thinking that?

21. I think he's talking about a power outage in L.A.
Seriously, though, a number of years back, I was camping at Shaver Lake over on the eastern side of CA, with my family, and a squirrel got into a transformer, blew it up, and started a MASSIVE forest fire that we ended up having to deal with for the rest of our vacation. Fire engines everywhere, planes, helicopters overhead dropping all kinds of water.

It started as a huge "BOOM"- then smoke...then a LOT more smoke...then fire, across the hills...

So.

I say it's squirrels. :)

Then there's a disruption in the forc...I mean grid. And things shut down by design. Then it takes time to bring things back up.

I recall some stupid shit that caused a SF blackout years ago. It's not always a major event that causes a major event.

93. And if it were Rove, wouldn't they be ramping up the fear quotient?
Fact is, things like this happen. They really do. Before Rove and likely after Rove as well.

And if it were Rove, then it should be somewhat more spectacular oh say like http://www.cnn.com/US/9607/02/blackout.final/ :

July 3, 1996
Web posted at: 1:00 a.m. EDT
From Reporter Susan Reed

SAN FRANCISCO (CNN) -- Much of the western U.S. was blacked out Tuesday when three key power lines failed. Throughout the crisis, employees at electric companies worked tensely to make sure that the unexplained line failure somewhere in the western power grid did not turn into a massive blackout...

...The outage affected parts of Oregon, California, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada as well as the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, according to the Bonneville Power Administration, which oversees the power lines in the Pacific Northwest.
=====================================

They did eventually figure out the cause as I recall. But now that was a blackout to catch one's attention.

Or, on a smaller scale, a 1998 SF blackout, due to human error:
http://www.sfmuseum.net/alm/outage.html

If this LA blackout was a "manufactured" event as some would claim, then it's a piss poor attempt given the possibilities.

101. Let's see, Rove can control LADWP and CA's transmission grid, he was
involved in the creation of Hurricane Katrina (or was it the Chinese?) and again Rove also was involved in creating the 2004 Sumatra earthquake. Pretty powerful guy.

But apparently the one thing he can't control are the polls that come out with Bush's approval ratings?

105. I never said ANYTHING of the kind...Someone could have intentionally
cut the wires as per request by Mr. Rove. You think he's responsible for hurricanes and earthquakes? I pity you if you do, but that's your problem, not mine. He might not be able to control the current polls, but Diebold certainly won this past election. (And if you've read ANYTHING on the evil political tactics that this subhuman sociopath uses, you'll have no doubts that he was involved in all manner of media manipulation and voting fraud.)

112. And just as, actually more, easily and likely someone screwed up as
people do without Rove providing instructions.

The blackout (which did not impact all of the LA area btw) was a transient thing and the media hopped on it with glee hoping for the next big story. Which it wasn't. It was the equivalent of a freeway chase in terms of lasting impact on the national news cycle. Hasn't taken the Katrina debacle off the air and won't. Iraq is still a continuing disaster and the polls are what they are.

No I don't think Rove and the Administration is responsible for hurricanes and earthquakes...but some folks here do. Perhaps you missed the threads here where precisely that was discussed and asserted.

For some here apparently there no longer are any natural events or accidents without Rove & Co being involved.

I'm well aware of Rove's history and manipulation. That doesn't mean when a utility worker screws up (and they do on occasion) Rove is behind it. Want to talk about vote manipulation and "caging" of prospective voters in the 2004 election as a prelude to orchestrated disenfranchisement? Fine.

But it's difficult to maintain credibility when similarly asserting that any local hiccup in the electrical grid must also be the work of Rove. And again, perhaps you missed the threads where some folks seriously asserted the Bush Administration was responsible for the Sumatra earthquake. More likely that there are disinformation campaigns to lure the credulous so as to label libs and dissenters as conspiracy theorists and loons when matters such as orchestrated voter disenfranchisement and manipulation of votes are discussed.

30. It's just a couple of loose screws that are to blame
One of them is in the governor's mansion in Sacramento. The other is in the White House.

This is what we get for putting energy-company-funded politicians in power.

That a freaking power outage is the end of the world?

FEAR is the worst enemy right now. People need to get sensible and deal with things like this that are inevitable.

Every time anything at all happens there is a conspiracy thread about it here.

It's all part of the conspiracy to distract us with fake conspiracies to cover up the real conspiracy!

This is totally understandable with the way BushCo has set things up, here.

107. My intital reaction, once I realized the power problem was not
quickly followed by a mushroom cloud, was GOSH, what an incompetent bunch of terrorists! They can't do any better than this???? So we had 2 hours of snarled traffic and a few people stuck in elevators downtown. BFD.

Then I heard about the incompetent DWP boobs cutting the line, and it was like a balloon deflating ............. what? no terrorists????

Bummer.
